Then you might have a problem with a refund anyway if you take it in yourself, as they generally want to refund to the card it was bought with. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

- B & Q have no contract with you, its the plumber who should take it back.0

My plumber paid for it via his card and I squared him up later.
It would have helped if you had mentioned this in your opening post as it makes a great deal of difference to the adice given.
As it now stands, your plumber should refund you in full and take the faulty unit back for a refund.0 -
It was the plumber who took it back and I was with him when he took it!0

As previously said, look up the sale of goods act re faulty goods. They don't have a choice. They seem to be working on the basis that you've changed your mind. If it's faulty the plumbers contract is with them, not with the manufacturer and they have to rectify the situation.
If you google SoGA you can find some links that clearly explain the legal position.
Insist in speaking to the manager, quote the sale of goods act and threaten them with trading standards if they don't comply. You have 4 weeks to check it is fit for purpose so they don't have a leg to stand on. You can accept a replacement if you want, but you are entitled to a full refund as you only bought it a week ago. (When I say you, I mean the plumber.)All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Should I email B&Q via their website and see how I get on?0

You could try but tbh as we now know it was the plumber he purchased it either get your money back from him or contact the manufacturer and get it sorted via the warranty.0
