So your father must have an income, so if you pay all his bills, what is his income used for?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Please please contact stepchange as a matter of urgency. Your father should NOT be paying unsecured creditors if he has priority debts.

Who is your father's tenancy with eg council? What does it say about rights for anyone else to succeed (=take over) the tenancy?

It might sound like a inquisition but we are only trying to help but need facts upfront beforehand. You really need to sort out your Dads benefit claim as it sounds like he is due more than he gets.

Is your father's house a council house? Or is it privately rented? Why does your dad not have enough income to pay his own bills? He should be getting a minimum of £145.40 per week plus at least some of his rent and Council Tax paid.

And it's not the inquisition, people have to know all the details in order to give correct advice.

If your father has a private pension??? Does he receive the full tax allowances for someone of his age (over 65 and I think over 80)?

This is not the inquisition but it is very difficult to understand the reason for the financial difficulty that prevents you saving or to understand why the council will not house you without some additional information.

    I echo this.

If you are going to be homeless we are trying to help you increase your income so you will be able to find rented accommodation if the worse comes to the worse.

    What is your dad's income?

If he has a 'measly' pension then he should be claiming Pension credit, does he?

If he has care needs (since you are caring for him then it seems he does) he should be claiming Attendance Allowance. Does he?

if he is receiving Attendance Allowance then you will not have to pay anything towards the rent or council tax as there will be no non dependent deductions.

If he has debts then his repayments should be based on his income. If he is receiving Pension Credit then he should be making token payments or getting a Debt Relief Order for debts below £15000 or going for Bankruptcy if the debts are over £15000.

Now can see why we are asking all these questions? Your dad shouldn't be in this financial position and nor should you.

Please don't be defensive we are honestly trying to help.

Please answer the questions and then we can move on.

You will not end up homeless. If you are working then you should be able to afford private accommodation.

If you aren't willing to answer the questions then I suggest that you google 'taking over a council tenancy' and you will find the information you are looking for as regards the current property.
