Out of interest, what is the cost of the trip?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

My mum is a guide leader so I have a bit of knowledge in this area. I'm sure if they could give you money back they would. The problem is that they would still have to pay out the same amount for things like transport and the campsite. Also if there any pre-booked activities with third party companies they would probably still need to be paid for (however not in all cases). So unless the place can be filled the Guide unit would need to ask everyone else going to pay more money or incur the debt themselves. It's a tough situation I'll drop my mum an email and see if she can suggest anything that might help.

    Thanks for that.
I just can't believe they can take your money and keep it due to circumstances beyond your control. If she had just decided she didn't want to go I would understand and accept that they keep the payment!

It's £120. Not a huge amount but its the principle of the matter!

Yes it is in the UK.
  • for £120 the excess will be more most likely and why should the guides suffer the cost for something they had no control over?

They will still need to pay for everything on this trip...

Have you thought about trying to sell the place cheaper to one of the other guides who perhaps couldn't afford to go. You won't get all your money back but at least this way you will get some and also you will be doing another child a good turn.

It's not their fault, the issue meaning she can't attend is down to you and her not the camp.

It doesn't matter if it was an accident or not, that's not their problem. The issue of a refund is a moral issue, not a legal one.
  • I offered to give the place to another guide who I know wasn't attending and was told I couldn't do this. Would rather give the place away than it just go to waste.
Will now wait and see what the guide leader can sort out!
