Am I entitled to a refund for a guides trip?

My daughter was due to go on a trip with girl guides in 2 weeks time to 'giggles camp'. Last week she had an accident and fractured her foot. The doctor said there is no way she can go as her foot is strapped up and she is on crutches and is not allowed to walk on it for at least the next 4 weeks. The camp has refused to refund a single penny of my money. Are they allowed to do this?!!
I'm absolutely disgusted that in the circumstances they would be able to do this!

Can't you claim on her insurance?

    Surely insurance should cover this?

Have you asked the Guide leader if it's covered on the insurance policy for the trip? It should be, it's a pretty comprehensive policy.

I asked the guide leader if it was covered on the insurance. She said they don't have it!
If I were entitled to a refund, would it be the whole amount or minus the deposit? I think under the circumstances the whole amount should be refunded!

You are only entitled to a refund if they can fill the place, assuming there is no free spaces available.

Hang on the trip isn't insured, if you weren't aware of this I guess the other parents are, if I were I would be informing the other parents of this as its a fairly serious issue.

I'm sure there must be insurance while they're there as it is a major camp with 1500 guides attending. I just don't understand why my payments aren't covered by any insurance.
I'm waiting to get the number of the camp so will ring them and speak directly to them!
The guide leader has said she spoke to them and they won't refund anything. How can they keep money for a service I haven't had.
Will definitely put me off paying anything to Girl Guiding in future!

    Girl Guides do have insurance:

I very much doubt if this will cover someone not going to a planned event.

The circumstances are unfortunate, but its not their fault. If they can fill the spot you can get your money back, if they cannot its highly unlikely at such short notice
