yep. Flyladies - stand by your mops!

I'm not deserting either. Yesterday evening I cleaned the utility/temporary kitchen properly for the first time in 4 weeks. Today I am washing old curtains and hoovering the downstairs bedroom to get rid of more dust from the plaster removal (now complete) so that we can paint the ensuite ceiling - twice! - before the tiler and electrician come tomorrow :D:D

Advice please, Flyladies with mops! I shall have quite a lot of vinyl flooring in this house when we've finished all the work: kitchen, utility, dining room, hall. Some of you have newfangled steam mops. Are they the best for vinyl? If not, what is? I'm getting the 20-year guarantee stuff (reckon on living here till I'm in my 80s :p) so want to keep it all looking nice. All recommendations welcomed - please PM me if you want to.

Oops I've been a bad flylady. Been too busy since all week with work, mortgage stuff, and socialising! However today I'm doing a bit of catch up. So far I have:

Done a rinse and spin on 2 loads of laundry I left out all night in the torrential downpour :o
    Put away dry laundry
    Watered house plant

We have a new vacuum cleaner so I want to try that out in a bit. Also need to empty some bins, tidy bedroom, change sheets, and clean bathroom.

Planning a lazy-ish day though, just CBA!

Right i need flylady help please.

I have agreed to help a friend do some cleaning (her family home) and went to see it. Its bad and I have been allocated the bathroom which is gross...

Now im a bit ocd about hygiene so never have to clean anything really dirty. So the question is:

If you had to deep clean a really dirty bathroom, where would you start? what would you use?

Would you buy anything in particular to use and leave it to work for a while or what else?

I can buy whichever products i like so it doesnt have to be mse or enviromentally friendly. to be honest it will need something!

    Many thanks in advance xxx

Harpic power tablets for the loo.. leave overnight!! and a bottle of harpic for the sides/under rim.. I tuck in toilet paper soaked in harpic if it is really bad!

Everything else gets a layer of neat domestos and left for a few hours

DO NOT MIX HARPIC AND BLEACH!!!!!!

Tiles.. if you have an old pair of the exfoliating gloves they are amazing for getting off soap scum and an old toothbrush works wonders on bleached grout and around taps..

Plenty of scrubby sponges a spay of some sort and rubber gloves would be what I took and just work from top to bottom while loo is soaking

    Hi all

Back from spa :D had lovely facial and a rather firm back, neck and shoulder massage. Then drank rather a lot of wine and was sick :( oh dear I ought to know better. Anyway, alls well that ends well, and we had a good time.

This aft I may start a little packing  how exciting!

Ruby I would start with soaking the bath / sink with some bio washing powder in hot water, and then pigpens harpic idea for the loo. Whilst they are soaking, start at the top so dewebbing, lightfiting, then tiles, windows, mirrors and wipe down the door. Cilit bang bathroom is supposed to be good.
Maybe ask if there is a lime scale problem? This would help you choose your products. Bring a few little sandwich bags, and elastic bands. Wedge paper towels soaked in white vinegar round tap spouts, cover in plastic, use bands to secure. Leave for good few hours. Good scrub later with old toothbrush should loosen any build up.

But not on brass taps, I think. Chrome is fine though.

Rubber gloves if the thought of the bathroom makes you heave. I use microfibre cloths and a fla$h-type liquid in a spray bottle on pretty much everything now, baths, tiles, grout, mirrors, windows, the lot. When there is a build up of scale in the loo I have been known to use a kettle of boiling water down the loo immediately followed by a couple of harpic tablets overnight. And if the drains are even a tiny bit sluggish, a large slug of bicarb down them, followed by vinegar which froths prettily and then a kettle of boiling water - they can get quite slow with soapy residue in one particular sink in the house here and that sorts it out every time.

Finally, elbow grease, which sadly I can't buy.
    Better is good enough.
