The warning isn’t very clear is it?

    May cause laxative effects.
Driving drunk MAY cause you to have a car crash, doesn't mean it's a good idea does it? :D

Seems pretty clear to me. They said it may do, and it did. What's not clear about that?

I must admit, I didn't know sugar free sweeties were known to have laxative effects, but I don't like hard-boiled sweets so have never sought them out. I certainly never will now!

    Every day's a school day...

It would be a false statement to say that it does cause diarrhoea because it doesn't always!

Frankly there is no actual proof that these sweets were the cause anyway. Food eaten up to three days prior can cause events like these to happen.
    It's someone else's fault.

Naaah, it would've been the sugar free sweets. They are so nasty. I imagine most diabetics have learnt that lesson at some point in their lives. I certainly did when I was a kid and omg there was a shop with a whole range of sugar free sweets. I ate my whole bag and stunk out the campsite toilets that night. I'll never forget it because it was a Friday night and the toilet block was full of women dolling themselves up to go out :D

Haven't touched sugar free sweets in 16 years because of that. I'd rather have a couple of regular ones and take the dog out for a brisk walk.
'til the end of the line

Sugar free anything, or products containing artificial sweeteners are generally not a good idea full stop. There is increasing evidence to suggest that they do not even provide the weight reducing benefit as claimed

Best way to lose weight is to steer clear of sweets full stop

    And how many are excessive?

I normally eat a 100g bag of boiled sweets when at the pictures with no ill effects.

    These were only 44g

I'm diabetic and sometimes treat myself to 100g of boiled blackcurrant sherberts. Yum. These last me AGES - and I actually can't comprehend eating an entire bag of them in the space of a couple of hours at the cinema, sugar free or otherwise. Are you crunching them? How do you do it?!

Rather than cutting down by eating whole bags of sugar free sweets, why not limit yourself to 3 or 4 normal ones during a film instead of about 2 dozen? Even at 44g, the bag wouldn't have been intended as a single serving.

I used to work in customer service/complaints, briefly. Gosh it could be dreary. Please complain to Aldi that you ate a whole bag of their sweets and followed through in the cinema, it'll make their day.

Also, do try not to do a massive fart in the cinema. The stench of hotdogs and nachos people stuff their faces with are bad enough. Nip to the loo!
  • I have been told to reduce my sugar intake and have been searching for sugar free equivalents and came across this post.

Not that I have ever !!!! myself because of it, but I have had one of these Aldis sweets and had diarrhoea, same with diet Pepsi, in fact anything containing acesulfame-k.

It would seem I am allergic to it.

Perhaps the OP is as well?

So is there a coke/Pepsi (I can't tell the difference) sugar free equivalent that has no acesulfame-k in it, or can I no longer drink coke?

And to all these saying that acesulfame-k does not cause diarrhoea, there are pages about it on the internet.

This thread is a wind-up, surely. The OP pigs out on sweets for 90 minutes then craps her pants... and it's somebody else's fault?

Oh, and can we have a bit more detail on your arse emissions, OP, I don't think you described them as fully as you're able. Did you not have an iPhone to hand, for video, or had you eaten it?
