Aldi Sugar Free Sweets diarrhoea WARNING

I am slightly overweight so I decided to cut down on sugar.
I bought some Aldi Dominion SugarFree Clear Fruits sweets from Aldi to eat while at the pictures.
Started eating them at 7 o'clock when the picture started and at about 8:30 I thought I had wind and needed to fart.
Was I wrong.
What came out wasn't gas. It was water.
Obnoxious smelling water.
I had to go to the toilet, luckily it was dark, you try walking while clenching your buttocks.
I spent the rest of visit to the pictures sitting on the toilet getting rid of water.
My partner had to send someone looking for me as I never made it back to the pictures before the picture finished.
The cause of all my discomfort and embarrassment?
Aldi's Sugar Free Sweets containing acesulfame-k
From what I have read about this stuff it should be banned.
It is poison
I did go to the doctor and she recommended that I should never eat anything containing this poison ever.
So if you decided to cut down on sugar and have had diarrhoea check that you are not poisoning yourself with acesulfame-k
I don't suppose writing to Aldi will achieve anything.

Lots of sugar free sweets cause diarrhea during excessive consumption and many warn of this on the packet.0

Agree with Gwylim above, many sugar free sweets, cause a tight stomach, with very bad wind and a laxative effect as well and it is normally mentioned on the pack.
I remember eating a whole pack of sugar free polos once not having read the warning. My stomach was in knots for a few hours.
I still buy sugar free sweets sometimes, but wouldn't eat more than 4 or 5 over a day.0 -
Never heard of acesulfame-k causing this problem and a quick web search shows no corroboration.
The culprit is usually sorbitol, and products containing it carry a clear warning of this possible effect if you eat more than a few.0 -
How many did you eat? The packet clearly states "Excessive consumption may cause laxative effects." Did you really need to consult your GP over a case of the runs?
For anyone that has not tried them - the butterscotch ones are divine, and only 9 calories in each!0 -
Were you watching Gone With The Wind?0

Did you read the pack before you went into the dark of the cinema OP, sugar free sweets usually carry a warning that they may have a laxative effect if you eat an excessive amount.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
