How many houses to view
Comments
-
we have been browsing for about 12 months, we knew where we wanted, but it had to be the right one, the one we are buying was the shortest viewing but we both knew instantlt that it was the one. we probably looked at 10 as there aren't many on sale at present.
last time oh had a list of wants that was impossible so compromises had to be made, eventually found what i would say was / is my favorite property we have ever had, just in the wrong location.0 -
We are FTBs too. Initially we offered on the first flat we saw but that fell through. We then spent another 3 weeks viewing properties - we saw another 15 or so before we found the one that we are now 2 weeks away from completing on.
Ultimately i'm really glad we didn't end up going through with the purchase of the first property. Despite being a lovely flat, it had some issues that made it an unwise purchase and I only really learned that because of the number of properties we saw afterwards. That being said, if the first property you see is the 'right one' for you, I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with going for it0 -
First time around I bought the first house I view .Went to view another 3 but bought the first one .
Second time I bought the second house I viewed .
Third time (for rental ) bought the first one .
Fourth time ,put an offer on a repo ,didn't get it
Second house after that I bought ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -

They finally found it this week.
DH and I bought this house 8 years ago. We only saw this one and offered the same day.
I'm currently living with my mother, I don't think I could stand another 33 weeks let alone 33 years haha0 -
We looked at 4, in what I thought would be my first 'viewing day'. In fact it was my only viewing day
The first 2 I looked at were side by side and I knew it would be one of them, and I didn't even want to go to the other 2 but they were already set up. Cancelled all further viewings we had. Took the husband back to look at the first 2 as soon as we could and put in an offer on the very first house we saw the next day.
I never feel like we should have looked at more houses, I feel lucky that we found a house we both wanted so quickly.Debt £26k 18/10/140 -
We met someone on holiday in the uk (we rented their annexe as our holiday home) they told us that 3 years ago they had only visited that seaside town for the first time on a day trip. They loved the town so much they put an offer in for the house they now live in, the very next day! (the only one they viewed)
My parents on the other hand, viewed 60 houses  before settling on the one they live in now.0 -

I know there is no real answer to this but I would be interested to hear from other people how long it took them to find "the one "
Thanks

We are in the final stages of buying our home. We started casually looking without putting ours on the market, we found a couple we liked. And then put our house on the market. As we were on our way down to the second property the wife spotted the house we are currently buying, on rightmove on the ipad while i was driving...
We have looked at probably around a dozen. But we knew when we saw it that we wanted it.
I'm even too nervous to put a link of it up on here until we exchange!0 -

Well I hope everything goes well for you. Put a link up when it has all gone through so we can all be jealous of your happiness0 -
Just counted up - we have looked at 35.
We have offered on 3. The first we couldn't agree on an amount and the vendors refused to counter offer. The second we had to pull out following the survey. On top of needing lots of work the property turned out to be non standard construction (single brick skin walls) and that in conjunction with the works needed meant that the property was not financially viable - for us at least. The third we had an offer accepted, then a few days later the vendor changed their minds and decided they wanted more (taking the price over the SDLT threshold).
The first property I did have some doubts about (although DH loved it), the second two we both liked equally but it hasn't worked out. We have been looking since March this year and it can be disheartening. So, OP if you have found somewhere you really like - go for it, and thank your lucky stars you won't be needing to trawl RM any more.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
