Birthdays: What do normal people do?

Assuming (yes i know it's T'internet) most here are relatively normal.... What do you do on your birthday when you get past 40?

Is it *just another day*?

Or do you make a point (and fuss) about doing something special * because it's your birthday*?

*genuine Q btw

It's been just another day since I was 16, let alone past 40!

The only birthday I wanted to do something special for was my 30th.

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

Just another day here too. I just don't get all the fuss to be honest.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Normal day at work - take in cake for colleagues. Meal out with family on the day or weekend before or after. Bigger celebration - weekend away or party - for the big birthdays.

I always buy myself a birthday present.

All others, even from husband, are optional extras.

Oh, and allways have supper of my choice.
  • My OH wants it to be just another day but I make a bit of a fuss. I really love birthdays.

I'm in my 30s and it's just another day. I'm usually at work so often forget about it. I'm single and don't have much in the way of family though. I can see it might be different if you have a family.
  • I don't think it needs to be over 40, probably a grown up birthday question

It depends year on year what day of the week it falls on.

If on a weekend, a nice meal out with the family.

If a weekday and everyone is at school and work, then maybe a trip to the spa on my own for relaxation, or a lunch with friends.

Always a birthday cake, no matter what the age.

Balloons and a happy birthday banner tend to find their way to a wall somewhere.

I think it would be a shame not to mark the day somehow. After all if you can't have a bit of fun on your birthday when can you

I have a day off from doing the housework and cooking and spend the day relaxing doing whatever takes my fancy.
