Had the potato wedges tonight that I par boiled the potatoes for a couple of nights ago and kept in fridge (as potatoes were going green). They turned out so much nicer and crispier this way than when I normally put them in the oven straight after par boiling.

    .

Chips are so much better also if you par-boil them, chill in lots of cold water, dry well and keep covered in the fridge for an hour (or three) before putting them in the deep fat fryer - really crisp and not greasy.

Milk and 2 yogs for DH from Li*l today so £1.41 spend today and I will now amend my total

Had first 'winter' type dinner tonight, as such miserable weather here today, and had HM Piggies in a Blanket with mash, carrots, cabbage and green beans (done in steamer) and onion gravy. I ate too much :rotfl:

    Lucky 13th tomorrow :D

Despite having a food shop last weekend, I seem to have been living in the supermarket this week with daily visits and several spends costing over £10 :(

Visited yesterday for tomatoes and a mid morning treat and ended up spending over £20

I haven't been keeping proper tabs of my receipts but I think all spends have been made on my debit card so hopefully that means I'll be able to see just how bad the damage is when I get my statement.
  • Morning, A$DA shop early doors, used the coin star machine with our pennies and got a voucher off the shopping for £10.17, so stocked up on 10 x 4 pints of milk at £1 each, now in the freezer, a tub of ricotta at £1 for a cheese cake with the blackberries I picked yesterday (knowing it was going to be raining!) a 470g pot of live yoguart 60p, 500g anchor spreadable £2, six pack H£inz baked beans £3.73 and YS fresh pork strips for stirfry £2.76 that I have split into two bags of 225g, now in freezer for next week. Total spend after voucher £9.92 and another £10 on diesel.

Have a good weekend y'all SG
  • Happy belated birthday Flo! September is the best month for birthdays.

I will have some spends today as off to Tesko in a bit to buy flowers for MIL. Our local has such a poor selection that I normally shell out more for their 'finest' variety. Fingers crossed that won't be the case today. MIL has another treatment today, and I like to surprise her by sneaking in to her house while she's at the hospital and leaving flowers or other goodies.

I'm baking cakes or something lovely for an outing with Hubbs' colleagues tomorrow, so will have to figure out if I need any baking supplies as well. I'm not having a happy morning so far, so am hoping this will be the therapy I need to change my mood!

Will try the par-boil chip idea. We don't eat many chips but when we do I do like them crispy. I usually cook them twice but this maybe has less calories - or maybe chips dont come with 'less calories' lol

Pigs in blankets/ mash etc, forgotten about that meal, thanks for reminding me as I have some YS sausages in the freezer - comfort food in this weather!

If i'm ever passing Sainsbobs I always get them as they are so much cheaper than everywhere else and very good value for money. However, its too far out the way to go just for potatoes :(
