September 2013 Grocery Challenge

Slightly less left this month than I had planned toward Makro shop - but it's ok. Have worked out that Oct budget will be 72.50 and will shop based on this.
Nothing left to buy for September apart from some cheese really so that's ok. Don't think I've done as badly as I expected for moving towards a monthly 'big shop' with smaller top ups and next month less things will actually be needed as frozen things will carry over
Will get some more stuff done here at work and then start to work on cool weather meal plans and shopping lists - although we have a league fixture in October so that means meals out (we take breakfast stuff with us and may do the same for lunches but will need to budget for 2 evening meals out - we're cheap eaters when out though usually as we don't drink and we will probably be at a Harvester - nice mains and unlimited free salad bar!)
ETA: I feel daft think of October's budget already when we're 19 days away from starting it, and people are only just starting September's GC! but I need to prepare!************************************

i have not shopped since monday and am pleased with how it is all going although the cupboards are very full but i like that as winter approaches in fact i might get a few moew stockpile bits at the end of the month to keep us going if we get snowed in...yes im aware im looking on the bright side
going to do a cooked breakfast tomorrow so need to freezer dive for some bacon and have a further think about how to use the mountain of blackberries i have picked

Hi everyone,
Budgets done to here
Laptop now fixed thank goodness!
I used the lambrusco in the chicken/chorizo pasta dish - it tasted fine, so will earmark the remainder of the bottle for something else that calls for white wine. Can't believe it used to be my drink of choice in the 80's
DH and I are out for a Chinese meal with BIL tonight for his birthday. Children will have sausages, mini roasties and veg. I'm working tomorrow so DH will cook his staple spag bolthen out on Sunday for my birthday meal - probably moules et frites nommy nom nom.

I managed a NSD today.
Can anyone tell me whether there is a dearth of markets in Scotland because they don't eat veg - or don't they eat veg because there are no markets ?? :rotfl:Extra money made jun 19: £16.07
Extra money made jul 19: £0.000 -
Online shop came to £51.12. £20 spent on beans and spices, they should last until end of next month. I put the money I saved by getting the £5 delivery pass towards the "make £10 a day" challenge. I also put the money I got from the price guarantee towards it. Altogether it came to £6.40. Total spend for the last few days is £77.52.0

£6 odd wasted in the shop today on the new branded liquid fla$h (£2.73/£2.63 each but 2 for £2.00?) then 3 packs of sweets/chocolate (3 for £1.20) and half price large bag m &ms (£1.50). Don't need any of this so not sure why I found myself buying it.
Need to buy peppers, paprika/smoked/normal and tomatoes if I'm going to make the beef ghou lash on sunday - the recipe also calls for bay leaves which I have albeit they are a couple of years out of date?! What's the deal with spices? I've got various jars, some out of date, some not - I guess they don't go off - just lose their flavour?
i've got a pack of thin steaks that needs using up in the fridge - I bought two packs - one got cooked up on a bbq the other day and they were really tough so I'm hoping cooking the other pack slowly with a nice stock will help make them nice and tender
Finally for now, i need to get some more food boxes to freeze unwanted portions - which ones/where best to get ? or are freezer bags better?0 -
