How do you do your own dried onions please? and how do you store then afterwards, do they keep long? Thanks

I have some onions that are getting past their best but for the price of them, I can't spare the freezer space to store them frozen.

I have a dehydrator now but used to dry them on baking trays in a very low oven.I store them in glass jars and they last me for months.

  • Might have to use DD's goggles :rotfl:

I actually got these for xmas last year in my stocking..

am sure they wouldn't have cost anything like that price..£23!!! crazy. anyway I have never used them for actual onions - they have been pressed into serivice as cycling goggles and are most effective :)

I think I'm on track to come under budget this month although need to update sign with washing powder /milk spends from yesterday...

Not been on for a few days as both mum and DH been poorly. Mum fell and we spent some considerable time in A&E whilst DH was admitted for a couple of days, he is now awaiting an out patient appointment. This has resulted in NSD since last one on 21st and have been using just bits and bobs out of freezers. Am looking forwards to getting back to normal eating.
Going to menu plan for the week now and then write a list although not shopping for a day or two as want to use up what's in. Will also set a target for Oct.

I tried to chop three with no goggles this aft and my eyes were streaming. The soup was nice, but i overpowered it with white pepper and thyme ... does anybody know how i can counteract this, so that the last bit tastes nicer?

Picked up the LMc burgers that i had left in the shop, so spent 70p on single cream to add to the soup.

Had this tonight with cheese on toast for tea ( unusually early for us). Made a really nice change having something simple.

  • Spent £44.45 of my £60 this week.
Did stray from my shopping list as I saw yellow sticker offers. Those have gone in the freezer for a rainy day.
Although I've strayed a bit I should be able to reign it in until Monday.

Spend of 1.00 in local shop on a reduced pack of carrots, brocolli and carrots and a pack of mushrooms.

I also got two tubs of doublecream halfprice
so will freeze these for christmas and count the 1.00 out of Xmas budget.

    Another NSD achieved.

What do you all do if you come in under budget? Do you save it or use it for a treat?
