  • Realised I am on £130 out of £200 and that's with spending the first few weeks away and therefore spending more on food. I've not bought any meat since I had some in the freezer so that probably has something to do with it, but I attribute it more to actually planning meals and thinking before I spend. I have a £6 off voucher when spending over £40 in Mr S and £35 worth of vouchers (credit card reward points) so should come in under budget for this month. Hurrah! I have eaten from the freezer a lot this week though so it's not necessarily an accurate representation.

I put mine on the side for a few hours and then move to the fridge overnight. I usually make sure it's out of the fridge for a couple of hours before it goes in the oven. That said, I believe the 'safest' way is to defrost in the fridge for 24hours!
Thankyou, that was a big help, Its been in the friday since yesterday morning, will take it out a bit before I cook it :)
Well done for your first month and yes to the chicken
    thankyou :)

Oh Bless, thinkI am in shock, you would normally throw it away .

It will be fine, food doesn`t go off in the freezer, thou it may get something called freezer burn, but you will know as it goes grey and looks really nasty.

Right off to get a Brandy to recover now :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
hahaha yep...im a bit of a worry and a date watcher, a lot of things usually get thrown out.....which is why I am now trying my best to change ;P

  • Right, managed a few hours sleep. Spends update includes:

£10.47 in Al*i on super 6's, milk, cereal and fruit

£5.00 in Ice*and on pepsi max (addict) and sandwich meat

£41 in Mr T's. Needed stuff like dog food, packed lunch stuff, a few tins and beer for Mr CP. Also had some treat stuff in there to cheer myself up, and a little treat for the kids for being so well behaved all week whilst I've been unwell.

That brings my total to £425.07/£450. Still have till Friday left in the challenge, so i think i might make target despite meal planning gone totally out of the window. All i'll need this week is milk and maybe cheese (forgot to buy some) and anything else I might have forgot :rotfl: My head is all over the place :rotfl:

  • Morning all, hope you have a great Sunday. I'm feeling better than I have in a few days -- despite the prospect of sitting in a laundrette this morning! A new washing machine should have been delivered Friday but has been put back, friends and family have so far kindly allowed me to do the washing with them, but I feel like I should stop imposing, it has been a month.

I was tempted to buy new washing powder but am going to make do, I have some Sainsbury's Basics and some Aerial hand wash which I'm going to use for kids' stuff as my daughter says the Sains stuff makes her scratchy. Will get Aldi stuff next time.

Feel like we are really tightening our belts in this last week of Sept, had toast/beans/bacon/cheese last night and sausage casserole planned for today, have saved a lamb shoulder for another day.

Have stopped myself buying expensive juice, biscuits and more snacks, really want to be under budget, going to make sure I do adpoints later to get maybe £1 extra in nectar points by the time I shop next weekend.

I seem to go a bit less MSE mid month, must stop that.

My MIL gave my a huge bag of plums from her trees yeterday so I spent the afternoon stewing them & bagging them into portions for the freezer.

    Hello all!

It's been a busy week, so I've spent this morning catching up with posts. Feels like a very long month again!

    Spends have been as follows:

    17/09 - 42p in Co$tcutter
    18/09 - £1.10 in Mr S
19/09 - 40p on ginger from the corner shop
    20/9 - £1 in Mr S
    21/09 - £3.26 in Mr S

    Total spends = £6.88

Been good using up leftovers this week for lunch (quite a few roast pork sandwiches) so spends have been relatively low.

Had housemates mum over Monday - Wednesday and she is very picky with food (no rice, no couscous, no spices...)

Meal plan this week has been/will be:

Monday (housemate cooked): M+S Roast chicken with garlic new potatoes and broccoli
Tuesday (housemate cooked): Turkey meatball bolognaise with linguine
Wednesday (housemate cooked): Roast pork (starting to use the 2.5kg pack delivered by mistake by Mr T!), with lovely crackling, roast potatoes and broccoli
Thursday (I cooked): Leftover roast pork stir fry with L/O broccoli and L/O mushrooms and rice. Bit of a mish-mash meal but it was very nice
Friday (I cooked): Chicken marinated with oregano, thyme and garlic roasted with onions, tomatoes and peppers
Saturday (I cooked): Tuna, tomatoes, roasted pepper and caper pasta
Sunday (shared cook): Duck breasts with a H/M raspberry jam sauce. I've never tried this before but a family member who gave the jam said it's a nice combination, because the jam isn't too sweet. This will be served with roast potatoes and cabbage/leeks

On holiday next week but had a few Euros from a previous holiday, so it wasn't too expensive.

Will be one of the last holidays I take for a while though because my studies are proving to be expensive.
