It is ridiculous that in this day and age, when I can transfer funds immediately to my solicitor's account, that they keep on with this outdated notion of a £25 CHAPS charge plus their fee for arranging it (which can be up to £25).

The solicitor looked surprised when I said I would transfer the amount over 2 days, but when I explained why, she thought it was a very sensible idea. Which, of course, it is!

Sadly the max with HSBC is £10k per day (on my advance account anyway. So even if me and the OH did it, we can only 10k each and not the joint account, so it would be 3 days for us to transfer the deposit money, or 6 if from only one of us :(

    Progress update.

Husband has a mortgage with Halifax and we have applied for a new mortgage offer with them adding me at the same time. Halifax have done all their checks and gone through all of our paperwork and earnings (2hr meeting) Halifax wrote to my employer as I work term time only and they wanted confirmation of my monthly earnings so we sent that back on Tuesday.

The solicitors have been in contact and sent us the deeds to sign but not date which we sent back, we then revived the land registry documents and we have signed them today and had them witnessed so posting them tomorrow.

I emailed the mortgage advisor at Halifax asking where in the process we are and he said everything's going through and all he was waiting for was the employer reference.

I'm not really sure what he means as I thought that we had to wait for the land registry to be changed by the solicitors

Depends if you have already had your searches and surveys done.

If you have, then it is transfer the deposit and arrange an exchange and completion date and pick up the keys.

If you have not, then it is searches and surveys and about 3 weeks until you do the above.
