Fair play to HSBC, had heard such horror stories about them but they've been excellent with us.

On this forum you'll only ever hear the horror stories or posts from people that think that they are the only client/customer on xyz's books etc. Vast majority of applications are processed in a reasonable time frame and in a straight forward manner.

That's exactly why I keep reading it. Whatever inevitably goes wrong with our purchase can't possibly be as bad as some of the things I've read here! :rotfl:
  • Nope. I'm not the most patient of people but it's really getting me down at the moment! 6 weeks since offer accepted, 4 since application, just emailed the broker to ask how things are going. I asked on Monday and he said everything is ok but it'd be nice to just know what's going on, I don't even know if there's been a valuation yet.

Am I supposed to contact the solicitor at all or just leave them to get on with it? I'm just presuming everything is ticking along behind the scenes as the EA hasn't contacted me for any info so they probably know more than me!

I would keep asking. 4 weeks since application and all the broker can say is "ok"? That is unacceptable. He should know more than that. I think you would know if valuation has been instructed so probably still waiting to get past underwriters. As for solicitors again need to push especially if a cheap online firm. They will just wait and wait otherwise. Wouldn't trust agents to push things along either. Shouldn't be the case but unfortunately it is down to the buyer and seller to chase and push everyone along.

Congratulations Blondiegb, sounds like a bit of a nightmare but you got there in the end! It's encouraging to know there is light at the end of the tunnel :)

Thank you madscientist! Been a big roller coaster. Hopefully exchange and complete goes quick and smooth:rotfl:

Not long home from our application, it wasn't as bad as I thought.

So here's my timeline so far

    30/06 AIP
    04/07 full application made

Have been advised we'll get a call by Wednesday to confirm a decision and it'll be up to 2 weeks after that for all the paperwork to be with the solicitor, the person doing our mortgage at the bank was incredibly positive but I'm still very nervous

The house we want is a new build, however it's up and just needs finished inside by the builder so hoping to be in comfortably by Halloween if successful.

We got our mortgage approved today :T it has been so stressful today, the girl who done our application last Friday said we would have a decision on Wednesday, when it came and went, I thought our chance did to. Just had the best news today now.

Just the valuation next week and start cracking on with finishing the build now
  • E-mail from the solicitor stating they have the draft contract and will be sending ours out shortly, have also applied for searches so hopefully all going well.

Are people still experiencing delays with Santander mortgages? We sold our house a few weeks ago and agreed a sale on our new house on 07/07/14 - mortgage application went off yesterday (11/07/14) I've been told to expect the whole process (up to completion) to take around 6-8 weeks as we're in a a fairly small chain so hopefully the delays won't slow things down!
  • does anyone know how long halifax are taking? i haven't seen them mentioned much
  • 8 July: first round of documents given to solicitor. Full mortgage application submitted by broker.

14 July: text from Barclay's to say the valuation has been instructed and they'll let us know the date.
