28/2/14 completed on my old house (not living in)
8/3/14 looked around two houses - 1 we really liked
10/3/14 contacted broker and got DIP
12/3/14 looked around another house but didn't like it as much
15/3/14 second visit to look more critically, took friend who is civil engineer and checked it over structurally for us
17/3/14 offer made and rejected, 2nd offer accepted
18/3/14 contacted broker to inform and for full application to be made
18/3/14 ID & OIP taken to EA
19/3/14 offers ending at the woolich so computer system not working/funds not available
20/3/14 unable to find partners name
21/3/14 turns out they'd put mrs not ms?! not sure if it will be done today
24/3/14 full application in finally and told we've passed the credit check (I assume that's a good thing) and requesting proof of deposit and 3 months bank statements, email back to check if printed off ones are acceptable
24/3/14 ID, bank statements, contract & £300 etc sent back to solicitor
25/3/14 broker got back, yes printed ones are ok - will do tonight, not requested ID
31/03/14 Broker said documents would be looked at in 5 working days so we should hear something by Friday
03/04/14 Broker emailed to say they hadn't looked at the documents and probably won't until Tuesday
07/04/14 - Partner received a text to say survey booked for 10/04/14
    10/04/14 House valued
14/04/14 Got text to say we could check valuation on line, valued at our offer price, no concerns etc :D just waiting for it to be looked at for the mortgage offer (3-5 days broker said) and the search to come back, feels like things are moving on a bit now :T

    Hi Jooles,

I have just submitted my Woolich application. :/. How long did it take before having all the requirements for your application before you heard that you passed the credit check? Did that stage involve underwriters.....or is that after the valuation? Thanks in advance. :). :).

We went through a broker and once we had all the documents to the broker and they submitted the full application the broker told us we passed the credit check on the same day, then it went to the underwriters I think, it seems (I can only go on our experience) that Woolich only book the valuation after the underwriter has approved the mortgage subject to valuation, we were told it would take 3 to 5 days now for them to look at valuation so hopeful we might know by end of week, but might be next week I guess because of Easter

Thank you for this. :). My broker was due to submit it late this afternoon. I just was not sure whether I would have to pay the valuation fee before or after it went to underwriters. I am feeling desperately nervous as to whether it will pass the underwriting phase. Best wishes to you for a quick offer to put your mind at rest. :). :).

*Update* (May be useful for direct Santander applicants)

    01/03 - View house
    03/03 - Make offer (1st rejected, 2nd accepted)
    05/03 - Instruct solicitors
06/03 - Call Santander and receive AIP over the phone with 'soft' credit check
<Lots of waiting for Santander to arrange telephone interview. Eventually get told it will be 21/03 which is stupid, so in-branch interview arranged for 18/03>
18/03 - In branch mortgage interview submitting 3 months wage slips, 3 months bank statements and proof of ID. Full application sent to underwriters.
21/03 - Underwriters pass application. Offer subject to valuation!
    24/03 - Valuation takes place between 9-11am.
25/03 - Chase Santander who confirm valuation came back at the price we offered, and written offer will be sent within 5 days of valuation report. :T
26/03 - Check offer is being sent & get told that the branch forgot to tick a box to confirm our house is HTBMG eligible. Chased branch who sent info over.
28/03 - Formal offer faxed over to solicitors (on my request).
04/04 - Receive written offer in the post (slowest 2nd class ever?)
15/04 - (After a slight delay due to solicitors needing to inform Santander that we will have both the freehold & leasehold titles) EXCHANGE OF CONTRACTS :j. Set to complete on 07/05

6 weeks 1 day from offer to exchange. Could have been a lot worse :)

chriskellym86 - I badgered them...a lot. I don't know if you're going through a broker, but as we didn't I felt a constant need to know where we were up to. I'm not convinced it helped time wise to be honest, but I felt like I was doing something and I always knew where we were up to. The bit that took the longest was getting the mortgage interview, everything else went relatively smoothly.

    Where are you up to?

Wow! That's an incredible turnaround - congratulations! You must be so excited!! We're still busy breathing a massive sigh of relief that it's almost a done deal after exchange, but I suppose we better start the arduous task of packing. Good luck in your new home :D

Yay! Gratz Clare :D So very pleased for you, you can relax a bit more now!

I've just found out that we have 'Complex legal issues' on our file relating to a Village Green that we aren't even physically connected to :( What on earth does that mean? Aside from no exchange/completion date in sight for the time being :(

    Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
Here is our story so far, we are using a broker who has been fantastic. Had some issues with my credit file at the start but managed to get a delinquent account reversed (long story). Fingers tightly crossed, I am finding the whole thing highly stressful, my partner is the polar opposite.

    18/03 House viewed
    01/04 AIP from Halifax
    03/04 Offer made and rejected
07/04 Second offer after viewing - Accepted
    08/04 Solicitors instructed
12/04 Full mortgage application & valuation paid
    16/04 Valuation takes place

    Estimated date of completion 02/06/14
