P.S. They do suggest that claims should be made using Recorded Delivery which is guaranteed 72 hours so that claimants can check TMO's signature on-line at the Royal Mail web site.
Recorded Delivery is not guaranteed (anything) at all....Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -

Special delivery it is from now on
Me too! I've always used the cheapskate option in the past ("Recorded Signed For" - 2nd class 94p a go - bargain, if you send in the bills way before the deadline) but with my current contract (cash back of £495 paid in 3 instalments), I will now fork out the £4.30 for "Special Delivery".
I'm still not 100% convinced that "Recorded Signed For" is not a sufficient safeguard when posting a cash back claim*, but after I've heard from several seasoned posters on here that Special Delivery is the way to go, then this is what I will use in future. After all, what's the cost of Special Delivery (£4.30 x 3 = £12.90) in comparison with the value of the cash back over 12 months (£495)?
* unless, of course, the T&Cs explicitly say "send by Special Delivery"
I also understand that you are insured/compensated for subsequent loss with Special Delivery (minimum £500). And in addition, the item is recorded from the start of it's journey with the Post Office, as opposed to just signed for at the end (as with Recorded Signed For). The inference being that by just sending an item "Recorded Signed For", there's nothing you can do if it happens to get lost before being signed for be the recipient.
At least that's how I understood this post from another forum member "The Cashback Collector":The_Cashback_Collector wrote: »The following was posted on another website but since it was done so by a Royal Mail employee with the intention of helping all those who read it I will take the liberty of quoting it here:
"Working for a certain mail carrier that I do, I should advise you that if you want to send your claim by Recorded Delivery, it won't cover you for loss, delay, or not being signed for or with "Denial of receipt". Recorded is only put on the database when the item is delivered, not from Addressee to Recipient. Only Special Delivery does that.
If you want to be absolutely sure, you should post by Special Delivery and in the worse case scenario pay for Consequential loss insurance. That would ensure that if the cash back is £60 you still get back in the region of £54 minus postage, just be 100% Guaranteed of getting your money back if the item doesn't arrive or isn't signed for.
Hope that makes sense.
Ps You can get a copy of signature from the www.royalmail.com website - See what you made me do? You made me give away who I work for! lol."0 -
My son just received this e-mail about his refused first claim. The 4th bill was 22.8.7 and he sent it in on 10.9.7 to the address on the depatch note and website. However when we checked Royal Mail website on 11.9.7 it said it had been redirected. Therefore received on day 22 through no fault of his. Should he respond to this e-mail and how? They also did not acknowledge receipt of claim until 8.10.7 ( 28 days from posting!!) and wrote last week to refuse claim. Help!!

Hi rose28454,
you statement indicates to me that you are accepting that it did arrive on day 22. Your sons T&C are the old ones, and did not contain the all important word "inclusive", so by my calculations, they arrived on day 21 (i.e. within the permitted time frame). Anyone strongly disagree with my calculations????
I would pursue it along those limes with TMO initially and then escalate the matter if you get no joy...0 -
I used recorded delivery when i had a contract with e2save, 2 of my claims went missing in the post, but luckily i managed to save at least one by resending a copy of my bill. With a dodgy company like tmo i've used special delivery with consequential cover, i'd rather be safe then sorry.0

You are, but......You need to pay £1.35 extra for consequential loss insurance.
Ah ha! I see. Right.
So we are looking at £4.30 + £1.35 = £5.65 for Special Delivery with consequential loss insurance (per cash back claim).
I suppose it all comes down to how much confidence you have in the Royal Mail to successfully deliver (and not misplace) your claim enroute to TMO.
I've always used the "Recorded Signed For" service in the past, and (fortunately) have had no problems with this.
So is the general consensus from other members to go for consequential loss insurance when posting off cash back claims?0 -
