  • My friend's mum is a bit like that. When she has kids its really going to kick off as she will try the same tricks on them and they are preparing for it now. Such a shame.

  • Actually by leaving the comments on face book she is showing herself up for what she really is a jealous manipulative old bat.

She sounds as if she tries to hold some power over her family. Could this possibly be to do with money?

The best way to deal with it is to ignore the behaviour, children soon learn to work out what is going on.

Absolutely! It's no doubt all down to the fact they are so far away and aren't a part of daily life so jealousy kicks in.

OP's 'tantrum + flounce' comment made me giggle...... Here with my MIL it's more of a 'wail + woe is me' display.

It's crackers isn't it? She decided to move away. She's about 2 hours flight away and can comfortably afford flights. She isn't a great deal further away than I am, (sadly she isn't in Aus, she didn't beggar off back to her home planet either) and I've spent nights on the Megabus to go and visit family, and other times when work bookings & funds don't all align I've had to miss out altogether.

Difference is, the times I can't get there, is when I like to see the photos of what the rest of them did, and I feel included in the event.

The MIL, on the other hand, is invited, doesn't come, then throws a strop and spits venom all over the pics.

She is never excluded. She excludes herself then plays the victim.

And when she does visit her children, it is never when she is invited to, instead she announces she is coming on this date and everything has to be dropped for her. And see if it isn't...

My ex's mum was like that...he's now an ex and she is well and truly out of the picture! :-)
She saw my DD loads and then sent a solicitors letter declaring that she wanted nothing to do with my DD afterall....mind you, that's after I did a 3 hour round trip to take my DD to see her once a week. GRRR
