Has anyone here gone through surgical menopause?

Since I last posted, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed. Asked gynaecologist about menopause and he didn't have a clue.

    Hi Amber Sunshine

I have surgical menopause as I had ovaries removed due to cysts in December. I posted earlier in the thread - its been a little odd, few hot flushes, sore joints that I'm now taking glucosamine sulphate for and very dry skin which seems to have resolved, not sure if its the glucosamine or the menopause vitamins I'm taking (menopace I think, from Tesco)

Sorry to hear you had ovarian cancer, I hope your recovery is going well. How are you finding the menopause? x

  • Hi
I am worried I am going through early menopause (late 20's) as I am having some strange symptoms.
E.g. I was having really bad night sweats (although these have mostly calmed down now)
My periods are light and very irregular (sometimes with a bit of clotting).
My skin got really spotty for a while, then dry, now seems to have calmed down.

I went to the doctors and they sent me for a scan and further tests - all coming back clear. I have practically begged them to investigate further but they say these changes can be normal throughout the life span.

    Does it sound like menopause?

    Hi Newdirection

Have a look at this website for some help with potential symptoms and diagnosis techniques.

You can also maybe google Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) rather than menopause.

Skins changes and changes to your period can happen over time though, and since the night sweats and spots have settled down, it might just be something that's happened. As I've got older I've realise there is so much doctors don't understand, especially when it comes to fertility issues.

Physically I'm almost recovered, but am starting chemo in a couple of weeks. I haven't noticed any menopause symptoms yet.
  • Thought I would just bump the thread.

Think I am perimenopausal but not suffering with hot sweats too badly (not yet anyway) I have the occasional night sweat and I find that alcohol seems to trigger this.

My main problem is lack of energy. Im struggling to get through the day and dont have any enthusiasm for anything much.

A lot of things and people are irritating me and Im really struggling to not show this.........especially with my OH. To be honest..... feeling rather down as if Im depressed.

The few days leading up to period are even worse and I feel I could literally kill someone and working in a customer facing role is proving to be rather challenging.

Has anyone tried menopace or other menopausal supplements?

Have been reading reviews and think Im going to give them a go.

Sorry for rambling on but OH is no help and seems to want to wind me up as "I bite so easily!" Really helpful!! NOT:mad:

My sister took Menopace for a couple of years from the perimenpause stage until she was more or less through and 'out the other side'. She thinks they just took the edge off her night sweats, dry skin, short temper with her DH and sons, and light-headedness.

Two other women I knew recommended black cohosh and a soy based product which name has escaped me.

I think with over the counter menopause products, it's a matter of trial and error to find which one suits best. Problem is the cost !

Soya products helped me at first but I needed more and more as time went on. I was topping it up with Menopace in the end which worked but was costing me more than I was able to spend and again the effects were wearing off.

Hi there, you could maybe go to your doctor for some blood tests to see how your vitamin d, iron/ferritin and thyroid levels are as these can all cause similar symptoms.

Have you seen any changes in your periods? 'Normally' they will get closer together, and will either get heavier or lighter. Sounds like you might be in early perimenopause and soya might help at this stage. I'd take care with black cohesh as it can cause liver problems.

    https://www.menopause.org/docs/default-document-library/straw10.pdf?sfvrsn=2

gives you some idea of the stages of reproduction. I'm hopefully in late perimenopause now and have had symptoms for about 3 and a half years now. I have been amazed by how much hormonal imblance can affect the body.

Come back with any questions you might have!
  • Periods were coming 26 days last year and then reverted back to 28 days for a long while but really heavy flooding.

Last month was a whole week late with really bad pmt symptoms.

Think I will make an appointment at the docs just to check nothing else is amiss before i try supplements.
