I have 6 cats, OKO did not work for me, it tracks like hell and had it all over the place.

I use this one, from Zooplus too:

    http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/biokats/fine_grain/137226

Sand like consistency, minimum tracking, clumps really well and one bag lasts my cats 10 day - mind it, I got 6 of them now.

I don't suppose you know whether this Biokats is OK for a cat that has itchy skin/ allergies?

My vet told me to avoid bleached litter as that can make cats itch.

  • O.P if your Mums in the flat next door can she come round once a day and help you with the litter trays?. Also if you get rubber gloves and a trowel, then there is no way you would be getting your hands dirty.

If really needed she would do so, she did it this morning actually. But I'm starting to get back into independence so I'd rather not rely on her. She works full time and is doing PHD, travels a lot for work, and spends all her holidays abroad, so it's not something I want to get into the habit with, as she wont always be here.

    What a great plan Razwaz.

I'm sure it will work. You'll get more and more attached to the kitties and you'll be surprised what you'll end up doing for them through unconditional love.

I don't know where I'd be without my cats. I love them more than I ever loved a human and I get that love back tenfold.

If you talk to them they'll soon learn to mew back so you can have quite a social time with them.

Are you able to touch them for a cuddle?

We do talk already :) and while Morti wont let you pick her up, Dylan loves it and is always looking for a cuddle. At night time Morti suddenly gets cuddley (but you have to wait for her to come to you) and we all sleep together curled up :j

I agree that OKO plus or the biokat stuff should be good. As paddypaws says, if you fill it full, then the wee forms kind of fairly solid "balls" after a few hours that you may be able to scoop out without too much trouble (however finding the balls may not be obvious... actually if you have to fill the tray deep enough for the balls to form consistently, then the poo may be more hidden, so maybe this isn't such a good idea, I'm guessing digging around for it isn't going to be something you'll enjoy!).
If you don't have it mega deep then some of the wee does get to the bottom of the tray and sit there, but it isn't really sludgy, it still stays fairly solid as it just absorbs into more of the litter.
We have 2 cats and were away this weekend and the litter didn't get changed from Thursday morning to Sunday evening (note they are allowed out during the day but one cat still comes in to go to the loo!). Although obviously this wasn't ideal, it was perfectly acceptable to the cats; the litter absorbs liquids really well. Our cats do not have very smelly poos, they are pretty solid and again teh litter seems to suck a bit of moisture out of them so they are quite easy to deal with.

I really hope it works for you. I remember your post when you were talking about getting the kittens and I'm really glad it's working out so well for you!

    Sounds lovely Razwaz.

I sleep with mine too. My little girl cat died a little while back and she was the one for snuggling up with me. The little boy preferred to sit/ sleep on the edge of the bed. But since she died the boy has stepped up to cuddling.

She was always the leader so maybe he didn't want to step on her toes (or should I say paws) when she was alive. He's also been a lot more vocal.

Well my trial bag of litter arrived today, it was just big enough to cover the bottom of all three trays, and I was worried it wouldn't be deep enough, but I just went to check it now and noticed a small dark lump. I got my new scooper (the one with big holes so it filters unused litter back out) and went through the whole tray.

I removed around 10 lumps, everywhere around them was dry, no noticeable smell and super easy to do. I love it so much I've just ordered another 40l bag as I want to switch to it permanently.

Just wondering, as I've seen everywhere people say just pick out the lumps and top the tray up, how often does the whole lot need to be dumped? I know the tray needs cleaning, but not sure how often since the litter contains things really really well.

Thank you so much for your help guys, I have two happy kittens and no more worries about the cleaner not coming often enough.

Sorry - which litter did you buy at the end?

Remember, clumping one needs to be quite deep for the clumps to form and no to stick to the bottom of the tray

The Oko one :) and it seems to be deep enough as balls are forming, but I'll make it deeper when the bigger packet arrives.

Great that you are so pleased with the litter.
As for whole tray cleans......I will admit that I never really throw any litter away. When the deep filled trays are getting quite low after several weeks I empty them into my outside litter tray, give the indoor ones a good wash out and then fill deep again.

I second the use of deep clumping litter- it works out more economical as you can reuse so much. I have super deep litter trays. Also have a look for a long-handled litter scoop. I managed to get one from the US that is solid metal-no risk of flicking litter and worth every penny-the long handle makes digging in the litter more bearable (I have one tucked in a gap next to washing machine and I really need a long handle or I can't reach. Also easier to clean if need be. I have had the same scoop (Durascoop)for about 6 years. I haven't seen them for sale in the UK though-I got mine from ebay.
