Best Litter for this situation

To start off with, I have a major phobia of getting anything "dirty" on my palms.

I have 2 kitties, they have 2 litter trays and I'm currently using wood pellet litter. I walk past the tray every couple of hours, and have a small lidded bin and a stack of doggie bags. I turn the bag inside out, grab the poop, tie it up and throw it in the bin.

I can't change the litter tray myself, I have tried but ended up having a huge panic attack. Part of allowing myself to have the kittens at home with me, was hiring a cleaner to come round twice a week. As part of the cleaning list, changing both litter trays and cleaning their food bowls, so it does get done twice a week no matter what. But I'm not able to change it in-between.

One kitten was given to us way too young, he was 6 weeks when we were told he was 8 weeks, and after a check up at the vet, I was told to give him a bottle of cat milk every day. It's a lot of liquid and he does pee a lot because of it.

Because of all the pee, within a day the wood pellets have all dissolved, the tray starts to smell a bit, and the kittens don't like going in it.

What is the best type of litter to use, given the slightly complicated situation?

Price not so much an issue, the shops I have available near me are ASDA and Home Bargain. No Tesco.

You need to be changing the litter daily not twice a week, what you can get are litter tray liners so everyday you pick up the liner (which is like a giant dog poo bag) which removes all the litter, you tie it up and put it in the bin, then give the tray a good clean, put a new liner in and then more litter.

I haven't had a litter tray for a long time but we used to use the pebble type as we found the others stuck to our cats fur, as we don't like litter trays we only adopted older cats who just needed a few weeks to settle in before they were ready to go out.

I would recommend World's Best Cat Litter:

    http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/worlds_best_cat_litter/136586

The urine clumps easily, smell control is good.

To clean out the lumps, use a scoop, such as this one:

I have found that diet can have a huge impact on the smelliness of their doings. It is worth trying out small bags of quality food to find out what suits them. (Again, try specialists such as Zooplus). Most of the stuff you can buy in the supermarkets is made out of fillers, not quality product.

I use oko plus from zoo plus website and liquid forms into like a soft ball rather than affecting the whole tray. My cats don't mind me picking the dirty bits out and not changing the whole thing but I guess that's what they are used too now.

I had a look on zooplus, and I like the sound of that Oko one mummyroysof3 :)

I also got them a cat tree to have a play in, it's a tall one because Morti loves climbing up and watching the world go past.

I'm afraid I wouldn't touch Oko with a very long barge pole, I used it once, damned stuff gets everywhere, honestly, it had to seen to be believed. I didn't think it did a very good job either.
Not a fan of tray liners either as they tend to rip.
Just have a look on Zooplus, my own prefrence is Golden Grey Master, you can get it scented, but I prefer it plain, it really is a matter of trial and error, what suits one, won't do another.

I had already ordered before Celli responded, but for some reason I got an email this morning telling me my card details we're invalid and could I remake the order.

I've bought the £3.99 trial pack of Oko so I can see if it works for me, but I really need to stop going on zooplus, I've ended up ordering another box of toys along with the litter, as well as two cat trees

I just line the litter tray with a black plastic rubbish bag then pull it up and throw away. You never need to touch the actual litter then. Use rubber gloves when pull up and tie off the bag and you should be fine.

Did I read right that your cleaner washes the food bowls twice a week also. Don't know if I'm misunderstanding but you must pick up and wash the wet food bowl straight after puss has eaten.

Don't leave wet food bowls down, puss could get food poisoning and at the time of year flies will lay their eggs in the food. (sorry for the awful mind picture there!)

Dry food bowls I wash and replenish every other day as I leave her to graze.

Water bowls I wash out and refresh twice a day. I have three water bowls in different rooms and I replenish more often in hot weather.

Edit - Oh, you might prefer the clear crystal cat litter. Its much less messy, stays solid and lasts longer but a lot more expensive. You can get it in all the supermarkets you mention. I prefer it to the messy litters that powder down.

Hopefully you will like the oko. I would never use anything else now as I hate with some litters that 1 wee can mean a whole tray change. My cats don't like those liner bags as I think they get their claws stuck in them when digging and make a right mess lol

Was also going to suggest paper plates/bowls for wet food if you don't like cleaning them.
