Best Litter for this situation

I have 6 cats, OKO did not work for me, it tracks like hell and had it all over the place.
I use this one, from Zooplus too:

Sand like consistency, minimum tracking, clumps really well and one bag lasts my cats 10 day - mind it, I got 6 of them now.0 -

I've recently started using this and I love it!
It'll probably work out more expensive than others I've used (EDIT: just checked the price and it's cheaper than I thought it was) but it gets rid of any smell.
Doesn't track but my little sods do like flicking it out of the tray, more than they did with any other.0 -
I also use the BioKat's litter in the summer time fragrance, it lasts for ages. I haven't counted how many days it lasts but it clumps so much better than cat litters that I've tried from the supermarket and less smell! Although my little one likes to rake in it and throw it everywhere.0

If you have your kitties neutered (once they're old enough) you'll find their urine will smell less, not much help at the mo, I know.
I use litter liners, they do occasionally get torn but not often. I use an antibacterial clumping litter from pets at home and find it ok. It clumps well.
I've also recently bought a hooded litter tray as the kitten was kicking litter all over the place. It helps keep smells contained too.0 -
The smell doesn't really bother me, they just hate walking on what is basically wet sand. They do kick it out a bit, but I put a plastic mat under the trays so it's just a case of pouring it into the bin.
Liners wont really work for me, I have a panic disorder and it's really not a rational thing, I can just about handle scooping, but touching the tray is beyond me.
I'll give a few a try and see how I go, carry on listing what works for you
And to the person asking about food bowls, they were on sale for £0.69 so I bought about 10-15. Clean one each time, and they are washed twice a week.0 -
If people are wondering why I bothered getting cats if I have these problems - I've been on a ton of treatments, therapy, medication, CBT, classes, basically they tried everything. I've had mental health issues since I was 4 years old. My social worker suggested animal therapy, and since my mother used to do it (she's a mental health specialist), she got 2 kittens and kept them at her house, I went round every morning and stayed until my mum got home from work.
After a month of doing this every day there was such a huge improvement in me that I got discharged from the Crisis Team. I'm successfully living alone again without any breakdown, and it's all down to my two baby kittens.
I'm very aware that their needs trump mine, so if living with me (they have been here since Monday) doesn't turn out to be a long term viable option, then they will have a place at my mothers flat (next door) so they wont be abandoned and I'd still be visiting - they know my mother and her flat well already.
I just really want to give this my best shot and see if I can do it, even if it comes down to hiring someone to come round and clean bowls/trays every single day, I'll do it, because they are worth it to me. They gave me my life back, nothing I can do for these kittens will ever repay what they have done for me.
I'm just looking through my options and seeing what I can do for them myself, and I'll find a way to fulfil any gaps between what I can do and what they need.0 -
razwaz, I for one applaud you for facing so many of your fears and taking on the care of these two kittens.
It is great that you have a back up plan of them moving back to your mums....but somehow I don't think you will need it!
As for the litter, I use Oko plus and am really pleased with it. You DO need to fill the tray really deeply though to get the best results. This way, the pee forms a complete rounded clump and does not soak down to the bottom of the tray. These clumps can be scooped easily and quickly in the way you describe and disposed of in a kitchen bin where there will still be no smell (presuming bin changed every couple of days)
Poops can be flushed straight down the loo as the litter is actually flushable, although I tend not to try and flush too much, preferring to compost the wee clumps.
The trays themselves would barely need cleaning every week, litter can just be topped up to maintain the depth....many people will only do a full clean and throw out remaining old litter after several weeks0 -

I only have two cats and two trays, so presumably, that would last me about a month ? ( I don't have your mathematical skills, so thats a guess) must have a look to see if it would work out any cheaper than the stuff I use, which lasts just over a month.
Blimey ! just had a look, that is cheap !, I shall try that next time I'm buying litter .0 -
What a great plan Razwaz.
I'm sure it will work. You'll get more and more attached to the kitties and you'll be surprised what you'll end up doing for them through unconditional love.
I don't know where I'd be without my cats. I love them more than I ever loved a human and I get that love back tenfold.
If you talk to them they'll soon learn to mew back so you can have quite a social time with them.
Are you able to touch them for a cuddle?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Any more posts you want to make on something you obviously know very little about?"
Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.0 -
Biocat - with 4 cats 2 bags were lasting me whole month so with 2 cats 1 bag should last a month and 2 bags 2 months.
It is very economical. They sell them in 2 bags sets so the 14.99 for 2 months worth of litter is pretty good price me thinks. Around 7.50 per month.
With my 4 (now 6) I empty whole bag between 2 extra large/deep trays. It has to be deep to allow it to clump and not to stick to the tray.0
