    No they have sarcastically suggested planting a bush which will kill the tree.

    I wasn't being sarcastic - bushes are great for blocking out views. Yes it will probably kill your tree. Move the tree? Let it die? Isn't your biggest problem the view? The bush will solve it!

    Not sure why everyone is assuming that 'bushes' will kill a tree.

    Shrubs and trees can coexist in close proximity very happily.

    Obviously you must avoid damage to the tree's root system when planting the shrub and the shrub must not be one that demands a lot of sun if it is shaded by the tree.
