Hmmmm - I disagree with that, in that you can't study philosophy and then decide to be an English teacher, for example.

When I was in HR and interviewing people then it DID matter what grade and subject they got because we specified what we wanted when advertising and recruiting. - When you want an Environmental Officer then you don't want someone with a degree in Spanish applying really???? Also sometimes if you have two identical candidates then the grade can be the only thing that separates them.

It's all very well saying it doesn't matter what grade you get until you've worked either bloody hard to get a First or just done the minimum to scrape an Ordinary - If I had got any less then I would have been really annoyed at myself!!!!

True I see your point, but the way this thread was going it was like everyone should get a first - and being realistic that is not going to happen

I work in finance, nothing to do with my degree, but it was my presentation skills and others skills i got from my degree which helped with the job

when i went to uni it didn't matter what college you went to or what A level results you got before you went there, but some people made such a fuss out of it

You can;t say that just because they got a 2:2 that they did not work hard - is that not judging people a bit much?

I'm just trying to being the hierarchy down a bit, treat everyone the same. Well done to everyone - you got a degree, its not each, what ever subject and whatever grade you got

I got a 2.2 in Forensic Science BSc (Hons)!!!!
I'm really pleased, I always end up wishing I get higher than what I do though! My graduation is on the 19th July, so I'm starting to get nervous about that. Now I have to enter into the adult world......

Well Kelly - you obviously didn't try hard anough or you socialised too much - thats what some people are saying here!

Unless you go to some 3rd rate pretend University, Universities do care very much what A'level grades you got and in some instances which colleges you got them from.

As for the whole 2:2 not working thing have a read of the StudentPhil thread entitled University Myths (maybe last posted in a week ago in this section).

Of course it matter what you got at A level to get on the course ect (that uni accepted you) - I meant once you got on the course you are the same as everyone else! all learning the same stuff

And I went to a top uni with full ofsted marks for its course

Oh one of those where you have to look at ofsted marks to know its ok ;)

Its the same in a job though - once you get accepted it doesn't matter what degree you got. But to get the job it might matter a great deal - just like having the required A'levels to get into Uni.

No - I got accepted as a few uni's but changed to this one based on its course reviews and rating in the telegraph i think

yeah - some people have top jobs who didn't go to college or uni, and soime who got no exam results at all

when you leave uni some employers want work experience which can be catch 22

    I've been Money Tipped!
when you leave uni some employers want work experience which can be catch 22

Well I have 20 years work experience behind me before I had the kids and went to Uni as well, most of that in HR and Hotel Management. I just want to go into teaching now and give something back(bit trite I know but I fancy a challenge)

And I am NOT saying just cos someone's got a lesser grade, they haven't worked - What I AM saying is that I personally slogged my guts out to get my 1st and there were others in my group who 'could' have done the same but let their work slide and got 2.1's instead!!! Equally, there were others who slogged their guts out and got 2.1's instead of the 2.2's they were predicted to get and bloody well done to them!!!!!!

It's all very well saying that it doesn't matter what you get, but I find that it's the people who get 2.2's and below tend to say that!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Out of about 90 in our year group, 3 of us got 1st's, 6 got 2.1's and the rest got 2.2's and 3rds with a sprinkling of Ordinary's and fails.

So just to clarify - the reasoin for my posting originally is because I was saying well done to everyone who got their degree

and then I was saying I didn't like people being put down or it presumed they were stupid or did not try because they got less than a 1st

I resent that anyone would say I didn't work hard to get my 2.2, I know how hard it was. Only one girl on my course got a first and she deserved it cuz she's naturally clever and tried hard, not necessarily harder than everyone else though. The pass rate wasn't that high for my course either, so I think I've done really well, having achieved something no-one else in my family has, so I think I have every right to be proud! :p
