All the energy we use comes from the sun, some of it has been stored over millions of years in the form of hydrocarbons.
Being cheeky, how are you going to run the lights off solar panels? You need the lights when its dark-. What about spending the ,money on LED lighting. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I knew you'd ask this
Schools tend to leave classroom lights on all day - so the kids can see properly
LED lighting tends to be a little harsh to work in....0 -
I use the warm white ones (3000 K apparently) at home, have not studied the commercial market, I guess different colour temperatures are available. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

As schools use the bulk of the power in daylight they must be a prime candidate for solar power.
I say good on you.Be happy...;)0 -

I say good on you.
Thanks - wow - someone else who has sense
Don't forget that long summer evenings and weekends - not to mention summer holidays - when the school is closed - ALL the money saved will reduce the reliance of the school on YOUR finances - taxes !!
I am hoping that if this takes off - it could interest national companies who may provide funds to help towards ground source heat pumps for heating the school during the winter - eventually letting the school run on greatly reduced costs - not GREEN but a muddy shade of FAWN !!0 -
so what you are saying is that actually you have no interest in reducing the energy use of the school, because it won't make money - you want to install solar panels as a money making exercise, not because of any "green" thinking.
Reducing energy usage should be the top priority as it's much easier to implement than installing additional, expensive equipment... do you really think that installing solar panels will mean people pay less tax?! the money just moves to increased electricity prices for everyone, and the school won't be asking the government for less money no matter what!!
I can't understand why you keep saying about the green credentials of something that is only worthwhile because its subsidised - as i said before, if the technology was efficient and cost effective, large energy providers would be using it (without government aid) - and there's really no point in trying to save the world if you don't want the foreigners to benefit!!:rotfl::rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Stop raising pointless arguments - child !
You are fully aware that there are two reasons for what I am proposing - financial and green
At the moment - financial takes precedence over green
If more people did what I want to do - the cost per panel and hence the cost per W of generated electricity will drop
Now go away and pick on someone else to annoy......0
