We are off to Majorca on Sunday, there is 3 of us with a combined weight limit of 45kg. We are taking 2 cases, 1 weighs 20kg and the other approx 24kg however Thomson's website states that 1 piece of luggage cant weigh more than 23kg - how strict are they with this when you are within your weight limit overall. Also can telephone/tablet chargers be taken in hand luggage?

You don't say how long you're going for. If it's the average two weeks then it should be easy to pare down your luggage and take fewer things. DH and I just came back from 2 weeks in Turkey. Although we were allowed more our bags came in at 13kg each and that included all we needed for day and evening wear. My hand luggage was also way under the 10kg allowed. We did a bit of shopping so a little heavier than on the way out.

Perhaps you could wear your heaviest jeans & shoes to travel?

Come on...let them take whatever they want to take. :) Otherwise they'll stress about not having taken something. :)
No matter how much or how little clothes I take, I never wear all of them. :) Mostly, I wear the same things over and again(Always have a house or apartment, so can do laundry).
So I don't bother with too many clothes and instead concentrate on gifts or some interesting foodstuffs in order to make my stay more comfortable. Who needs clothes in the hot weather? :)

We went to Florida for 2 weeks recently with 15kg allowance per person on a last minute deal. Instead of paying the extra charge for the baggage we bought lightweight cases so we wouldnt have a problem in the future if we got a good deal.

Could you use a shoulder strapped bag as well as your two cases and check them all in (and have your hand luggage as well). That way you'll each have one case of around 18kg, plus one shoulder bag of around 6kg plus your hand luggage. Spreads the weight a little for your poor hubby and he can possibly balance the shoulder bag on the case?

We are on holiday at the moment and the two of us just managed to come in 1kg under our 40kg hold baggage allowance. Mind you, that did include two sets of snorkelling gear and a rubber boat!

I had a different problem when we tried to do something like this.

We packed 2 cases, each carefully under the maximum weight limit, between the 3 of us. We all had 15kg like yourself, the 2 cases were something like 20kg and 22kg. They then tried to charge 7kg excess and 5kg excess. I pointed out that we had 3 weight allowances. They said that only applied if I was actually checking in 3 cases. In the end I had to check in my daughter's tiny hand bag to avoid paying excess baggage charges, madness!

It was completely ridiculous but then check in staff do seem to tend to behave in this way. Having the power to upset people and potentially ruin their holiday goes to some people's heads.

Had a look at that and yes that's correct weight allowance for the type of holiday. But if you have 2 pieces of 15kg you can put them both in 1 suitcase, you can pool your luggage together with TC. Also if you fly premium long haul with TC you get 30kg of hold luggage per person.

The 20kg bag is absolutely full, no way will anything else fit it.

Maybe have a rethink about the contents of the 2 cases as Grogg suggests:

Sometimes you have to swap items to get weight balanced as things occupying the same space can be heavier/lighter. For us it's toiletries that are the heaviest so splitting amongst the cases helps.

A recent trip with this lot saw our hand luggage weighed at check-in.

She didn't notice me subtly remove things before sticking the bag on the scales.

    Didn't expect that!
