read the post again, he only has 2 bags, 1 overweight and 1 bang on.
If there are 3 of them, and they have a total allowable of 45KG, then that's 15KG each isn't it?

So how can one of them (presumably you're referring to the 20KG case?) be "bang on"?

over 23kg is overweight with any airline (unless you are not travelling cattle class) so expect to be charged or move something, which should be easy to to do if one case only weighs 20kg

Thomas cook let you have up to 30kg in 1 case.

I can never understand Thomsons ruling of 23kg max per case as surely they use the same baggage handlers as TC.
This rule is very annoying for the Thomson platinum customers who have 25kg luggage allowance because what do they do with the 2kg that's not allowed in the case.
As for the OP take some out of the overweight case and put it in the 20kg case = 2cases at 22.5kg each.

Each company will have done their own risk assessments and decided on the max weight that they consider the baggage handlers should deal with.

23kg is it the top end of what HSE consider the maximum weight a fit male should handle over a short distance or lift without MHE

The weight limits are likely 15kg each. But then they should also have 5kgs each for hand luggage, so 60kgs in all if they are all on the same booking. Should be fine with a bit of moving stuff around.
Each customer is entitled to a free total baggage allowance of 15kg baggage and maximum 5kg of hand baggage

    Do they ?

I thought most economy class tickets (if not all) had a limit of 23kg due to the baggage handling cinditions.

Each customer is entitled to a free total baggage allowance of 15kg baggage and maximum 5kg of hand baggage (max dimensions: 55cm x40cm x 20cm (22in x 16in x 9in).

No single item of baggage may exceed 23kg. Customers who have pre-paid for an additonal check-in allowance which places them over the 23kg limit must check in an additional bag.(In this case a kg can be moved to the 20kg case or over to the hand luggage)

Baggage allowances can be pooled across a party.

thomson/first choice package holidays i have been on usually have a limit of 20kg without being charged for excess, but they usually weigh our family cases together. some premium holidays are 23kg.
in feb i flew to dominican republic premium class, got a 23kg allowance but was right on the limit, check in just shrugged and said as long as it did not exceed 25kg we were ok, baggage handlers cannot handle over 25kg
i would imagineits whoever is on the check in desk whether they enforce or not
  • I think Thomson default is 20kg + 5kg hand/cabin bag, not 100% on that however it is certainly the case for First Choice, however you can opt for only 15kg hold. OP what is your problem, just move 2kg to the lighter case or go with three cases, simples.
