I bought mine from ebay a few years ago and am about to start the 7 day scheme tomorrow (except I've just noticed I'm short on spirulina so will have to get some 1st!) bah.

Think I paid about £50 tops.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

  • Are there any recipe websites? I'm thinking of doing this for a few days as I feel really bloated & feel like I need a few days of eating light.

I just did a quick search on eBay and there are a few on there for better prices, that may be worth a look?

I've had a look on fleabay, but i'm not convinced. Some of the prices are double what you would pay from a retailer and i'm reluctant to buy used electrical goods with no manufacturers guarantee. I might be desperate but not that desperate? The juicers which are competively priced have numerous bids, meaning you'll engage in a price war, in any case? Also, some of the juicers are collection only, which means i would pay a fortune in transport costs.

I think i would rather wait and know what i'm buying, from where, and with the manufacturers guarantee, with electrical goods? Especially given my mean magic machine broke down yesterday, and yes, i was using it correctly. I've only had it for a week, but at least i have 28 days to return it to the retailer, as i specifically asked.

The lowest price i've seen the philips juicer online was for £59. I'd prefer to buy a brand new procuct with the manufacturers guarantee, given i'll have to return the mean machine. At least it's helped with my decision.

Hi: the £50 I quoted was a couple of years back so £59 now isn't terrible.

I guess when I buy electrical goods I am looking at the price versus age/warranty issue: i.e. I'll take a gamble the item will work for a reasonable period of time if I can get it at a generous discount on the new price.

The one I bought (as recommended by vale at the time) was £150 ish new and has lasted 2 years of on/off juicing so I feel justified in my buying habits there.

If you just want to try juicing and have an iphone it's worth getting the 7lbs in 7 days app as there are motivational videos, a juicing plan and some great recipes with videos to show you how to use them.

  • Hi, good luck with the juicing. I started juicing a few years ago, mainly to lose weight. I enjoyed the 7 day juice fast but found juicing time consuming so I only did it once a year. Then I noticed that I had far fewer colds in the few months after I juiced and in the summer my hay fever symptoms are much improved. I now do a juice fast everytime Jason Vale organises a big community one on his website. He puts motivating videos online and you can read comments and success stories from other people. I feel I am giving my system a rest from meat, processed foods, sugar etc for a week and my health is better for it. It helps to keep my weight on track too. I now incorporate one or two juices into my diet every day because I feel so much better when I do! I have bought the Phillips juicer and blender that Jason Vale recommends which has helped me to juice more often. The old juicer I had was very slow and took longer to clean. I know there are people who are against juicing - I saw some of their comments at the start of this thread. However, my own experience has been extremely positive in terms of health benefits. I will also add that I do not find the juice fasts easy but I think the health benefits are worth it! I hope anyone who tries juicing finds it as helpful as I do and wish you luck with your journey!

Glad to see it's going well for you claire-bear80.

Things aren't going as well for me.

The mean magic machine doesn't live up to my expectations as a juicer and it's been a frustrating few days. I think i'll keep the machine as it makes great instant iced fruit drinks, and has the grating / grinding facilities, which i obviously haven't tried.

Friday went badly as i spent most of the day trying to juice, i had nothing to eat and was very tired and had a massive headache. I've now spent another two days trying to purchase a "real" juicing machine. It's still an impossibility, (unless you want to spend £100's.) I don't know why suppliers aren't cashing in on current demand? Anyone who already owned a juicing machine is extremely fortunate. I noticed a survey last week which said Juicers came no 1 on the list of top ten regretted purchases. Anyone not want their juicer? :rotfl:

I fancied the Phillips HR186* . It seems to have won awards, but is out of stock everywhere. As are all the juicers in a similar price range.

At the moment, i've just had my first drink of tea in three days, (however, drinking herbal tea is fine?) I'm having one healthy meal a day (breakfast,) and will continue with the "smoothies" until i manage to purchase a juicer. :(

Sorry to see you have been having problems with your equipment Fredandwilma. Hope you can soon find a suitable juicer and get going properly.

I've now been juicing for a week and it's going well. Not sure if you are on Facebook but there is an extremely supportive group of UK juicers who have seen Joe's documentary and are now following the FSND plan (https://www.facebook.com/groups/561930893871304/). It's a closed/private group so you'll have to click on the Join request button but the requests get through quite quickly. If you'd rather not use FB, there is also a long ongoing thread for UK Juicers on Joe's Reboot website.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, i shall have a look at the support threads.

Faulty mean magic machine has been returned to retailer and money refunded in full. I'm still on the hunt for my juicer and it's frustrating i haven't been able to start my fast, as yet.

What more can i say except i'm eating all the fruit and veg i have, instead.

    Not quite what i intended?

Probably what is more intended by nature though.
