Don't forget John Lewis!
Whilst their instore stock levels are dire and their tights are now very poor quality, my experience is that neither of my children have outworn M&S school uniform before it's outgrown. I certainly wouldn't buy shirts from anywhere else.
I also think school outfitters have superior quality clothing. You basically get what you pay for, which might not be a priority for the infant years when they grow like mad, but not so good for when skirts or shorts can last 2+ school years. I then find the supermarkets not worth it at all (I can't stand 'shiny' school uniform!)0 -
They did away with that tradition years and years ago.. it would mean extra machines in the factories rather than just spewing out thousands all identical.
I recall nearly 30 years ago my school 'blouses' being identical to my brothers school 'shirts' .. they didn't even have any shaping to allow for boobs/waist etc they were literally identical other than one said 'boys' on the packet and the other said 'girls'
M&S haven't in terms of buttons. We have M&S girls shirts and boys shirts in our house, which do up in the traditional way (ie with buttons on opposite sides.)
You can also buy fitted girls shirts, and blouses.0 -
We went to Clarks outlet and got boys school shoes for £22 :T DS pleased he said he can run really fast in them :rotfl:Bossymoo

I got everything from Tesco last year, apart from the clarkes shoes, and everything lasted fine. I'm curious about the suggestion of Aldi though because it never occurred to me that they might sell uniform. I'll take a look when the holidays start.
School uniform at aldi is only in the 'offer of the week' stuff. Its in from next week, but would expect it to sell out within a day or two0 -
Polo Shirts - Asda - Get the size bigger - 3 on the go and they tend to last from Sept to feb - lose some of the length
Skirts - Got last from Littlewoods catalogue - they were really good, pleats stayed in place, and did from Sept to May (growth spurt_
New Skirts - Matalan - got a ladies skirt - 2 and there ok, start back with them
Jumpers - Did have mix
Tesco - 10/10 couldn't fault (store ones)
Cardigan - DD changed school after May half term and needed change of colour for cardi - Brought asda one - it is awful, bitty, shrunk, absolutely disguisted with it
Now have to have logo'd uniform - the school have an arrangement with Tesco (age 15/16 cardi) pd £8 - it is really good quality, fleece lined, - were going to get 2 jumpers and 1 more cardi - last the yr
Shoes - Hush Puppies - they lasted from sept to April (growth spurt), next pr got from brantano - cheaper shoes £18 - not the best - can't go wrong with Clarks xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I always buy clarks shoes, my sons first pair have lasted him his first year, my daughters patent ones have too (both with a little shumagic/restorer from clarks)
I bought my daughter tshirts and cardigans from matalan last sept and had to replace them as the cardigans had faded and shrunk terribly by xmas, thsirts shrunk too. Dresses from matalan were lovely though, jeresy crossback ones were sooo pretty.
my son has next combat trousers and shorts, had to replace the trousers due to a growth spurt but they were still in immaculate condition, as are the ones I replaced them with-however he needs new ones as he's outgrown these again lol. Polo shirts were from sainsburys but this time hes having the logo ones via tesco school agreement.
Im lucky in that my brother works for next so anything I need he can get me with his discount0 -
All mine are from BHS (apart from the stuff I have to buy from school supplier)
I found they last great and wash well. xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

Just to add, my daughter hates the school uniform cardies and always found them too 'scratchy' I eventually got a navy blue cardi from the petite range in somewhere like New Look in a size 8/10. I also got her some grey skirts from the petite range that were on sale and ended up cheaper than school uniform. Anyone with older girls it is often worth a look in the adult petite ranges xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000
