I'm on my second time around with the school gates saga, the first time I was pretty much ignored as I was a bit younger than the other mums, this time I know how it feels and make an effort to smile and speak to people and include others in the conversation, its amazing how much people will chat if someone starts the ball rolling. Makes the wait for the door to open fly by!0

oh I have tried to chat with the mums or dads - and been met with a blank stare - after two years I gave up. I was born and brought up in that village - but living elsewhere for nearly 36 years has clearly made me an outsider, as I don't really know anyone.0 -
I think I made it up!
oh and just because I am a 'granny' does not mean I don't have a sex life! if you make it to your late fifties - I do hope you haven't given up your sex life!
I just need someone to have one with :rotfl:(and I'm mid 40s, so there should be plenty of life in me yet)

What a small world! I work in the shop you walked through to get to the garden centre. I did wonder why three coach loads of adults and kids turned up. Apparently you were at the wrong garden centre as the company has two garden centres in the area. There were a lot of you!!! I can imagine it was quite stressful!!0

Isn't the point of a school trip to push the kids on the coach, wave goodbye and then go off and enjoy yourself without them?0

Honestly, meritaten, if I didn't recognise you as regular poster I'd have thought you made it up!!
I'm amazed at the way the school visit was handled. I've never heard of anything so bad in my years and years of the same. What happened to the pre-visits and the risk assessments?
Hope you enjoyed your wine, you'd more than earned it!0 -

He obviously got the best ones in his little group.
I always seemed to be landed with the whiners, the 'I want to go home', 'Matthew looked funny at me, Miss, Miss, Miss, Miss, Miss' or 'I don't like that, I fwitined' kids. Well, until I refused to do anymore trips - then I got a smaller number of the so called troublemaker kids. Who were always absolute sweeties, albeit with a need to be effectively called to heel every few minutes.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I used to go on school trips and often ended up with "trouble makers" they were usually fine-now 16+years later it still makes me smile. If I see these tall young men and women I can still see the children they were-we get mutual respect.
my husband went on a trip too- the kids he had were quiet for them(he was giving out sweets!)
Keep trying the smile/chat/how are your children? etc , there may be someone as lonely as you feel
Over excited, tired, disappointed -children may often say " I hate you" but don't mean it, don't take it personally, he loves you really.
It does sound as if there is a little tension already in the family so try and stay calm, loving, and the gran he always loved, he may be aware of some tension even at that age.
I would have loved to have a grandma take our kids on trips-alas they lived too far away:(0
