Ah GP I am so glad to see you back, but very sad for you at your awful news.
My dad had a similarly tough time when one of his childhood best friends died a few years ago. I think for him it was more confronting the reality that they were the same age, but also it pulled him back to thoughts of others he had lost much longer ago and he took a long time to put himself right. So take the time, commune with nature, remember in whatever way you wish to, and take care of you and yours.
Your picture is beautiful. I find lovehearts everywhere in nature. Stones from the local beach mainly!
Keep your chin up & thanks for being one of the ones I have met. You are special.

Thank you all so much.
I've just popped on to say how saddened I am to learn that rosieben has passed away. I know that those of you that frequent the OS boards will have encountered her, but recently she had also posted on this thread, and was immensely supportive of me in doing so. She also recently took back responsibility for compiling and keeping in order the recipe index on the 'Grocery Challenge'. No mean feat, and something that she had volunteered to do before too!
Thank you rosieben for all your hard work on MSE and for the difference that you made
My condolences to rosieben's family and friends - many of whom, of course, will be her online chums at MSE.
RIP rosieben

Good Evening :hello:
Thank you - again
superdave, was, as ever, perfectly right. I AM proud of you all for keeping this thread going whilst I was in absentia pondering life, the universe, and.... why?
To maintain the MSE vibe, I can report that I recall at least 3 NSD's, so I added these to my total. I did make a donation to the collection at the funeral, but as this didn't come out of the household budget, and was for a charity, I'm skipping counting this, for once
In addition, I know that you *missed* what we 'ad fer us teas - awful badBut I can soothe you slightly, by reporting that we had pasta..... twice. Once with red pepper and tomato sauce when I seriously CBA'd, and again, the following night, when I used the left-over veggie sausages that were ear-marked for a dish this week
On Saturday we had Yotam Ottolenghi's Two Potato Vindaloo, which we've had many times before - served with a splodge of left over dhal and some basmati rice. On Sunday, I amazed myself and felt the need to re-invigorate my cooking mojo, and made (as per the planner) a mushroom risotto. This used frozen mushrooms (YS'd from a while back) and some dried mushrooms (storecupboard) and some of the risotto rice that I had bought for..... 74p???? from mrL several weeks ago. I can heartily recommend it - cooked beautifully. It was a really nice risotto (even without any wine
) I was really pleased. Last night, we had aubergine curry and rice. It was a new recipe that I was trying out. I have to say, even though I forgot to add the chilli powder, it was a *nice* curry. I think that if you were unsure about curry, or aubergines or spice, it would have been a good 'starter' recipe. As it was, it didn't - for me - better the recipe for Aubergine bhuna that I got from Memorygirl's blog, so not a keeper of a recipe for me on this occasion.
Tonight was another *new* to me recipe. Utilising that oft over looked veg........ the Swedish turnip.........:D:D
So, I took inspiration from the recipe for Vegetarian swede and feta fritters which I'd love to report I followed slavishly...... But y'all know me..... :rotfl: I took inspiration from it and gave it my own twist. I used a dollop of tatties, mashed (from the freezer - de-frosted). A grating of swede (enough), fried up with some onion, garlic and celery, omitted the eggs - I never use eggs in burgers - they make the mix too wet..... I didn't bother with the spring onions, despite the fact mrA had flown them all the way in from Eygpt, especially for me..... I snagged some chives that were YS'd - and the rest will be frozen. I used half a pack of smartieprice feta cheese, seasoned it and omitted the flour, but I did - taking inspiration from Heidi at 101 cookbooks, toss some caraway into the mix. In addition, I chose to toast and grind up some porridge oats to coat the fritters/cakes with, before frying them. Once they were coloured in the fry pan, I transferred them to the oven and kept them at about 160 degrees C for about 10 - 15 mins, whilst I brought everything else together.
The result was.... YUM - I kid you notMake these fritters/burgers. They are totally tasty, totally yumtastic and really, really inexpensive to put together. Even with my 'pinch 'o this' and 'dash 'o that' I made 6 portions - and I used my 'poaching ring' as a mould - which has gotta be an inch deep at least. Pic here;
Served with a few julienned carrots, the last of the *50p* frozen broccoli from mrM and some hot 'salsa', which was basically onion, celery, red pepper, tinned tomatoes and a few dried herbs.
I did spend money today - but I only got what I needed from mrA, including the TV mag. I'm still plenty 'in credit' to the point where I splashed out on an OS map for the area that we cycled in on Sunday. I had borrowed the library copy of the map, but there are several good walks/cycle routes in the area, so it pays to have our 'own' copy. I got it from m1llets for £4.80, and they were giving away a free pair of *heated* insoles. I got some for DP's size, but they're a gimmick really - and single use :mad: So I don't think i'd bother with them again, if the promo is still on next time I purchase something......
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for having *known* rosieben - RIP sweetheart
for your support - Yep, I mean YOU - yes, really
for DP - who has been, and continues to be, my rock
Thank you so much for continuing to pop by and *roar* me on. Your support is ............ immeasurable - truly. But all the same, ta everso for being here
See y'all later.

I've also got me huge bag of lentils, 3kg of pasta, 25kg of potatoes and half a tray of eggs to use. It's great to have such a stock of food in, I feel like a little dormouse ready for the winter now and just need some inventive ideas. I'm sure I've seen huge bags of carrots somewhere. Does anyone know how long they keep for. I'd also like to bulk buy my onions but not sure if they'd last. I know Mr L is pretty cheap but it's something we use a lot of in Supersaver Heightsland. :rotfl:
Oh and according to DD spinach, eggs and milk are super foods - I was thinking of eggs florentine, never had it though, does anyone have a good recipe please?
Oooooo, is egg & potato dum on the menu? It's one of our favs and every time DH makes it he says " it's as cheap as chips"!:rotfl:Busymumofthreeplusdog......

Hello Greying and chums. I am so sad to hear about Rosieben. And I wish you the best Greying as you mourn your friend. The picture of the heart leaf and your description of your bike ride were so moving. Love to you Greying.
I hope everyone is having a better Tuesday and keeping out of the weather. XxWith family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!
