Pops head around door and says hi to Greying and friends:), have Flapjack and HM toffee for later if anyone needs a sweet treat:D

OH and I had an amazing holiday in York, full on touristy stuff, managed quite well with the aid of pain killers and walking sticks, we are both totally in love with York Minster, we have been fortunate to visit some lovely cathedrals etc in Europe, but there is something so special about the Minster, perhaps because it is "our" history?

Can't believe that today we will have been home for a week, lots of washing and garden chores to catch up on, not complaining about the lovely weather, but so much watering needed (where is the ache and pain smiley?)

Belated birthday greeting to Hopefuljoy, and hope that Greying and GP have a busy and peaceful day, where do these little spats blow up from? in our case when one or both of us is tired or worried:(

Ay up maddiemay! Welcome Home :D

Oh, I agree entirely, these spats (they're dragging on into today :() are 100% down to tiredness, worry and disappointment. DP just isn't good with stress and lets it overwhelm him instead of dealing with what is stressing him. I can put up with 'seeing the reason why/behind, it all' until I am tired - or I have had my fill and then I just snap. Result; both of us feel like..........

The next home I live in, is going to have none of this palaver.... none of it........... :rotfl:

  • GP. Thanks so much for the Leanne book. It is now in my iBooks - fantastic. I have just been reading about low carb diets and I think it's going to fit well with everything I've been following from your thread. I just need to get off my behind and start the exercising.

Sorry to hear about spats. My DH gets his nickas in a twist about all sorts. We used to live in a town and he insisted on having the windows open all night and then fumed when people made noise outside. (We lived in town for goodness sakes!). It used to put me on edge wondering what would upset him next. Now we live in the country (partly because of this) and he has the windows closed (Why?:eek:) so he finds other things to get wound up about. I've realised that it's his outlet for other things he can't express I guess, and so there are always going to be these annoyances wherever we live. Also my in laws live in a lovely country house surrounded by a very large garden but their next door neighbours are always on their case about some hedge or other - I'm sure the bigger the house the more people feel they can dictate. No home is an island, unless I guess it's on an island. :rotfl:

We are thinking of moving in about 18 months time so my DH is going to have to think long and hard about what he wants in a neighbourhood, cos I'm not going to put up with his silliness. My next home will also have no palaver too :T

Lol sorry GP that's turned into a bit of a rant

  • Just catching up with this lovely thread and had to eat a banana part way through because I got so HUNGRY!!! :rotfl:

GP I never really see 'baked beans' of the 57 variety as a meal. No matter what they are with it seems a snack to me. I think if I made Leannes beans it would make it seem a lot more meal-like. And I would have used 3x the cheese :rotfl: I wonder why I can't see my laptop buttons under my tummy at the minute.. :o

I appear to be very lucky in that Him grew up in a variety of 'bedsits' and tiny tiny council houses so he has no real aspirations as long as it has a roof and can be kept warm cheaply. Since we had Jellytot he is focusing all his efforts on 'someday we will buy a house and have something to give to her' which I find pleasing and sad in equal measure. He will have nothing from his parents or grandparents other than some furniture and debts.

Anyways, GP I am MEAL PLANNING today. October needs to be far cheaper. I have lost £384 of my paltry income per month. That is basically my savings amount, plus any erroneous spending. Bit frightened.

    Have a lovely Sunday all!

  • No palaver here either. OK l understand grumpiness from tiredness and stress, but my grumpiness when l live alone, and have no one to upset/upset me............ just contrary methinks.
So, today, will l continue in the garden, get the borders and tubs ready for winter, or will l continue throwing stuff out indoors? who knows, it can't be both.
I haven't managed a NSD all week, mainly because l have been so disorganised, and so have not had a shopping list, l must put this right as l am sure it is more expensive this way.
My tail feathers don't shake, so much as tremble, but l too must get something achieved today. xxx

    Good Evening :hello:

Ha have just caught the last 10 mins of 'Despicable Me' on TV - love that film :D

supersaver - did you download both Leanne's books? Although From Scratch isn't necessarily as budget conscious as Good and Cheap, it has some good recipes in it and a very :money: ethos :D

Don't worry about the vent - we all need to :D And maybe we need to start up the 'no palaver property owners club' :D With homes that are cheap to heat, simple to clean and easy to maintain :D In us dreams eh?

lilt - that is a very good point, the 'juice' of commercially canned beans always seems so thin, and yet I did think that the HM ones were more 'substantial. In fact, we had the leftovers for lunch (think small tin size of commercial beans) with some wholewheat soda farls and some scrambled egg - a very substantial lunch, considering we'd been working all morning :D

I read about your budget 'downsizing' :( If it's any help, Leanne has certainly helped my budget this month. I know we're not quite done yet, but I'm on target to finish with a 'surplus' for the first time in,....... well, I don't know how long.

mrsinvisible - lovely to *see* you :D Oh, I manage to fall out with myself too - but it's just more annoying when DP riles me..... :rotfl:

Well, I can claim a NSD, have not left the homestead today. Been hard at chores and supervising DP and ducking each time I was in line for me head getting bitten orf...... :rotfl: The daft thing? The silly bugga has completed all the tasks on the list that we set ourselves..... and we had time for a chip butty yesterday <insert rolls-eyes smilie> :rotfl: He's singing along to the radio now, not a care in the world.............*sigh*

I have managed to find one *new* recipe that I would like to try out next month, so I can accurately claim that my meal-planner is underway - 1/31.......... I have so enjoyed making dishes from Leanne's books this month - not too sure how I'll keep the momentum going next month - particularly in terms of keeping it interesting whilst keeping to budget :(

    Tonight's meal, was, again, courtesy of Leanne Brown's Good and Cheap - I had a bash at the Vegetable Jambalaya on pg 97. I thought that it was a good dish. Perhaps not as good as the Jambalaya from the blog that moneyistooshorttomention introduced us to. But again, in terms of simplicity of recipe and simplicity of ingredients, Leanne has nailed it, and I think that it is probably a keeper of a recipe for those two factors alone :D Picture here;

    006_zpscfecfabe.jpg

The recipe calls for 3/4 cup of rice, which works out to about 140g. Now, it is supposed to feed 6.... but as I generally tend to allow 75g (dry weight) rice per person in a meal, it made 2 adult, main meal portions for our dinner. We were satisfied, not stuffed and we had been physically active all day, so it fulfilled our needs.

As you can see, rtandon's good influence is starting to rub off on me and I filled the other side of the plate with steamed, shredded cabbage - one that I bought YS'd in mrW more at the start of the month, so it needed using up :D I did add in some fried mushrooms (YS'd and frozen) to the Jambalaya, as I need to keep my last 2 veggie sausages for the dish for tomorrow night's dinner, and we were everso slightly 'beaned out', so I didn't put the black beans that I have in the freezer into the dish - although I may well have done, had we not had our protein 'hit' at lunch time :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

that DP is a grafter and will keep going until the job is done - putting up with the grumps is a minor issue in comparison :D

that Team Greying has a variety of skills at our disposal

for the lovely late-summer weather - I could only appreciate it from indoors, but appreciate it I did :D

Thank you so much for popping by, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate you taking the time from your busy lives :D

    See y'all later.

  • Ahoy Greying.. No meal plan, but I did a LOT of ironing, and batch cooked, (some even made it to the freezer) andddd I used the cocktail sausages that have been languishing in the bottom of the freezer for a while now. It is basically ready to start building up again sensibly! :D

I promise faithfully to meal plan... Tomorrow. :o

DP sounds like my dad... only dad still to date has never finished a job. If something is finished, it is because my mum got up and finished it... :rotfl:

    Have a lovely eve!
