Hello GP:
Thought you might enjoy this article!
OH & I had a long chat about food nutrition after using up the last box of KD from across the pond. (He hates it!) Our normal diet is extremely healthy 50% of our plate is green veg, 25% starch (noodles/rice/starchy veg) and 25% protein. Today's lunch was the furthest thing from healthy we ever consume! I'm pondering the psychology of so-called comfort food & realizing that the enjoyment factor is not what it once was!
Food for thought?
XO

Mmmm, rtandon very much food for thought indeed.
Perhaps FB's are different in Canada, but in the UK, I was under the impression that most FB's are run on some sort of charitable status - whether or not they are affiliated to the major player in the sector. Our local FB is independent of the Trussell Trust but is well structured and - unfortunately - has been in existence for yonks.........
I wonder, from a democratic viewpoint, whether having charities decide policy arbitrarily is the way to go. Which takes nothing away from the sterling work that FB's do and the difficult circumstances they are put under. But emergency food provision in times of crisis and need is one mandate. Being responsible for the nutrition and health education of a swathe of the population is quite another........ Don't have the answer meself, but I do think that it is a little more complex than, 'let them eat organic beef and all will be well......'

Good Morning :hello:
Hopefuljoy - glad that you had a lovely day and that you made every minute of it count - I see what time you posted:D
Well, today is going to be busy, but I hope that it is more even-tempered than yesterday. DP and I had a lovely day and also we ended up having 'words' which wasn't very pleasantStill, at least at our age, the thing blows up and blows over in relatively short measure. In the early days we lived together, grudges and silences went on for hours........ and days:o......... :rotfl:
Dinner last night was simple, as we had eaten lunch and had had a chip butty treat at the greasy spoon, so we didn't need much. Oh, the calzone was ok cold, but I think I prefer cold pizza. Mind, that may have been down to the filling - I'm not sure how appealing cold broccoli is....... perhaps if it had been a tomato/mozzarella calzone, I would have been singing its praises?
So, for dinner, I made Leanne's baked beans from pg 101 of Good and Cheap (her version, not her dad's) and teamed them with baked potatoes (last of the M&$ YS'd) and sprinkled some cheese over. It looks like there was masses of cheese, in reality, it was a very thin slice, grated and shared between 2;
I used some frozen black beans and frozen haricots with a tin of red kidney beans for my bean combo. I used a spoonful of Dijon mustard and a spoonful of wholegrain mustard. The chilli was provided by some chipotle powder. I blitzed a tin of chopped tomatoes (as per the recipe) and worried that they were going to make the dish a very light pink, however, they quickly darkened with cooking. The beans were OK, I thought that they were going to be too sweet at one point, but they seemed to even out with the addition of chilli. They taste (as you'll appreciate) like no commercially produced baked beans you have ever tasted (for me this is a plus) so I suspect children will view them with suspicion........ :rotfl: In addition, I wouldn't have thought that they were any cheaper than a tin of BB's off the supermercado shelf. A reasonable recipe though and a good standby for a quick supper. But if your family are wedded to the manufacturer of '57 varieties', then this probably isn't the recipe for you
Might be able to snag a NSD today, as I suspect that we won't be leaving the homestead.
Right, I had best shift a tail-feather, all these chores won't jump up and do themselves
Thanks for popping in, reading and joining in. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.
