  • Good Evening :hello:

    First and foremost themarsbargirl - inspired by your enquiry, I have tonight made a batch of yoghurt. Only 500ml, because I'm trying to make the milk last until the end of the month, but none-the-less, yoghurt is (hopefully) fermenting as I type...... :D

    So, despite much shrieking and hooting and whooping, the outcome of the motorcycling was something of a foregone conclusion :( Far be it for me to drop into the conversation that F1 got this boring too........

    A little while ago, I went outside to check on the tomatoes. We have had some rain this afternoon - does anyone know why birds sing loudly after heavy rain or quite vocally during light showers? Whatever the reason, the sound was wonderful, I spent - yet another few moments - standing, staring and listening :D

    Dinner this evening was broad bean risotto. And yes, the eagle-eyed amongst you will have observed rice for dinner, for lunch and for last night's dinner. It's towards the end of the month and we have had some substitutions/adaptions - what can I say?

    Photo here;

    The broad beans were frozen - mrA I think.. The risotto rice was more or less the last from the box on special offer that I got from mrS at the start of the month. The mint and cultivated wild garlic (ransomes) which you may just be able to pick out, were grown at Greying Towers :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    for wonderful birdsong - at any point during the day

    for thought provoking comments, from members of the MSE community

    for DP - who continues to amaze me and make me laugh - in equal measure - on a daily basis :D

    Thank you so very much for popping in, reading and commenting. I continue to greatly appreciate it.

    See y'all later.

    The Lark Ascending, Vaughan Williams

    He rises and begins to round,He drops the silver chain of sound,Of many links without a break,In chirrup, whistle, slur and shake.For singing till his heaven fills,‘Tis love of earth that he instils,And ever winging up and up,Our valley is his golden cupAnd he the wine which overflowsto lift us with him as he goes.Till lost on his aerial ringsIn light, and then the fancy sings.
    What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • oooh, satchmo - We heard and saw skylarks on our walk last weekend. Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful :D

    Oh how lovely. My loveliest bird moments: 1. catching the merest glimpse of a kingfisher; 2. a family of ducklings slipping and sliding up an icy ramp; 3. a family of duckling being watched by a group of 3 year old children waddling along with their carers (they can't have been a family group as there were about 7 children).

    We often hear geese flying back to Willen lake late in the evening, and have christened them "lager geese" as they honk raucously as if they've had a few pints!

  • Good Morning :hello:

    Ah back to normal this week :D

    themarsbargirl - I am pleased to report that I have a batch of yoghurt :D I have actually just tried to take a photo, but because the light is quite poor - and it isn't easy to *snap* yoghurt anyway, I'm afraid that the camera was having none of it :( But I shall be having some of it just now :D

    satchmo - hope all goes to plan today and your move is seamless :D

    I should be able to snag a NSD today. I'm just about all out of pennies if i'm honest. I'm happy to see if we can get to May 1st without spending anything else.

    Dinner this evening will be vegetable stew and bulghar..... do tune in for a pic of that, won't you? :rotfl: (and yes, Dear Reader - I am sending myself up :D)

    Right, so I've snap to make. Best get a wiggle on.

    Thanks for popping by, reading, commenting and joining in. I remain greatly appreciative.

    See y'all later.

    We had bulgar for lunch yesterday GP - or should I say "with" lunch really. Not had coarse bulgar for a long while, and I'd forgotten how nice it was.

    Satchmo, kingfishers are stunning aren't they - we're lucky to have an RSPB reserve just about 15 minutes away where they're listed as one of the star species, and we see them a fair amount. Never fail to make you stop and watch though!

    GP - NSD managed with us yesterday - I'm going to have to nip into MrT's one day or the other early this week but would be nice to see if I can finish the month with a few more "free" days after that!

  • Good Evening :hello:

    Beanie - thank you for starting us all off in the right fashion :D Lovely to *see* you as ever :D

    EH - You inspired me to select 'coarse' bulghar for dinner this evening, as I have both coarse and fine - courtesy of AF :D I racked up another NSD today too - just as well really! :D

    I hope you all have had a wonderful day - as have I :D

    I'm claiming my 16th NSD :D

    It struck me earlier when I popped out to check on the tomatoes (fine - thank you for enquiring :D) that I have not actually seen any swallows/swifts since Easter Sunday. Now that is very odd. I mean we've been travelling round enough. Very, very odd. It was a group of sparrows having a 'domestic' that made me think that I've not heard the swallows.....

    DP and I had a quick sub-committee meeting after dinner. Everything is going to plan - ish and DP is getting mucho mucho better at suggesting things and querying things, so all is well :D

    Dinner was veg stew and bulghar. I know that this will probably overwhelm you all, given it is so exciting, however, I'll risk it. Here is a pic;

    003_zps075911d6.jpg

    And yes, that is parsnip Dear Reader, as we are currently carrotless at Greying Towers :( Mind, darn expensive things carrots........ So, not the most scintillating dish, but it tasted quite nice, was a change from rice and used up bits and pieces, so no budgets were broken in the making of this meal :D I had actually meant to serve it with a dollop of HM yoghurt on top - it definitely needed it, as I lobbed in a couple of HG (by Uncle) chillies, which is like playing russian roulette with yer tea. If you want them to be hot, they ain't, if you don't....... However, I was so wrapped up in getting the food dished up, that I forgot, well, until I was 3 forkfuls in...... :rotfl:

    Here's hoping that satchmo is moved lock, stock and bathmat to the new apartment, and is currently enjoying a fish supper and a well-earned cuppa in celebration :D

    So today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    for 2 'thank yous' I got today - via e-mail, how 21st C :D

    for the antics of baby goslings

    for a walk through the park in spring sunshine - magic

    Thank you so very much for popping by, reading and commenting. I appreciate it. Greatly.

    See y'all later.

    Thank you for the warning on HG chillies, GP. I have six plants going, described as orange chillies on the original plug box, so perhaps not as hot as some. Chillies are on offer at A!di this week, which reminds me, I should put the green ones I bought on a windowsill to ripen.
    I am told that chilli plants like being a bit dry and potbound. Well, once I have potted the young plants on to their final pots I can promise them that....

  • I grew some orange chillies a couple of years ago-they were rather nice in a stir fry. :D
