  • Lobs in the clogs.

    Watch out chaps - incoming.

My fail safe recipe when stuck is chop up spuds, bake/fry until golden. Apply seasoning/salt and bread and butter.

Additional fayre can be added as required to compliment these.

    Chips make everything better.

    And mind on this.

Have a great day. And if no inspiration strikes, pass the butter here.

Chips do indeed make everything better. Or even just spuds that aren't chips. MMmm, think you just inspired my lunch - thanks Pippi :D

Hi Greying, I can't remember if you eat cheese, so this may not work for you.
    http://www.greatbritishchefs.com/recipes/butternut-squash-tart-recipe
It's a recipe I've taken a note of to make in May - I'm the only cheese eater really but I thought once melted you'd have the lovely smoky flavour rather than a lump of cheese :)

I have a hankering for aubegines and am trying this recipe out in May as well.
    http://www.greatbritishchefs.com/recipes/aubergine-parmigiana-recipe

Completely understand about things going wrong and is this a clue. No advice to give but I've definitely been there too.

I was interested in an article on the BBC news site about an exec from Fbook - if you weren't fearful what would you do. I happened to read that when I was making a pretty massive decision and boy did it help me.

    Best wishes Tilly x

  • Oh my golly goodness, now look at all these visitors to the thread and their lovely supportive comments. Greying is reduced to a gibbering, humbled wreck, in the face of such kindness..... again :o

little_sweetie - I think that is marvellous that you are considering helping out your family with their replacement heating system. But yes, I remember a coal fire with a back boiler *at home* too. The chimney never drew properly and it took for-ever to warm the water up. No wonder we only had baths once a week!

starnac  lovely to *see* you - and it was! :D

INOD - wise words spoken as ever, because you are right, and we did! :D

Piquant - no-one died - you are absolutely right :D But aimless days, well, they seem to cluster together when you're not looking and you lose the week! :D

But we did notice that you were missing, and whilst the reason was very worthwhile - I for one am glad that you've found your way back to us :D

greenbee - how lovely of you to pop in :D You're such a busy thing yourself, thank you so much for giving up your time to help me. And yes, I accept plans meander, it just felt like a bit too much meandering for no discernible return - yesterday :D

Cheery - hey you! You're inspiring me to rethink NSD's. Whilst counting the NSD's is motivating (for me) I think that the 'mindfulness' behind all spending is a better way of looking at it :D There will be days I need to spend money - stopping *frittering* is where the real development lies though.

Pippi - you are DP's twin! His answer to sorting things out today was a chip butty in the greasy spoon we like! :D

Tilly - I do like and eat cheese - thank you :D And you're right. Whilst the universe wasn't trying to tell us we were 'wrong' yesterday, it was obviously *stopping* us, as what we were going to do was, actually unnecessary....... :D

Breakfast meeting was a success. We armed ourselves with our plan of action. Took off, were half way through implementing it...... when we discovered two things; 1) DP hadn't got a piece of vital information, which, had [STRIKE]we[/STRIKE] I known, could have avoided a lot of this........ and 2) we were given some *duff* information last year  Having received the right information today, we made a different decision - very straightforward, we're not disadvantaged by the delay and we can make progress in a month's time too :j

So, thank you for all your kind posts. We now have the information we need, and I've noted it down in a place so we both know where it is :D

    THANK YOU :D

Man plans, God laughs is a Yiddish saying. An English equivalent is: Man proposes, God disposes.

I've often made plans only for them to fall apart, and then something else comes up a short while later that is so much better than the original idea.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • Good Morning :hello:

Hey satchmo - how's the new apartment working out and how is work progressing on your permanent apartment's remedial work?

Well, DP was in a spendy mood yesterday and wanted to go to the pub for a beer. It was OK, but I really don't think that we're missing much, not going there on a regular basis.

    Dinner last night was Sweet Potato Jalfrezi, dhal and rice;

    018_zps85a5726f.jpg

I had a couple of sweet potatoes that needed using up, and the cauliflower was out of the bag of frozen mixed veg from Ald*, so I had it to hand. This is the 'Meat Free Monday' cookbook version - but I didn't put mango in it, however, if you would like a go at this curry, a similar recipe can be found HERE

I'm not sure what will be for dinner yet this evening. I certainly don't fancy what is on the planner, as it has an element of curry - done that for this week :D

I'm certainly going to be going for a NSD today. DP spent quite a lot of money on *treats* yesterday, which is very nice, but......

Right, DP said he was going to do some chores outside today, but since he is still abed snoring, I think I'd best go roust him out of his slumber........

Thank you for popping in, reading and cheering me on. It is greatly appreciated :D

    See y'all later.

Hi GP, well... we are actually moving TOMORROW (eek). We took over our short let last weekend, moving most of our interim essentials then. We won't take ownership of the permanent apartment until the end of June, when remedial work will start.

I woke this morning from a dream about high blood pressure, and boy I know it is raised. DH has been noisy since 7am aaarghh. I am grumpy in the mornings, he's whistly and singy and it winds me up (did I mention I am grumpy in the mornings?).

Oh well, off to church in 10 minutes, that'll calm me down.

I'm so grateful for your diary, thank you for your wisdom and wit.

    Hugs, Satchmo x

  • Satchmo - then I shall be thinking of you and your DH tomorrow and sending calm, serene-type thoughts through the ether so that you flutter into your new apartment with ease :D

Pipster - you are so kind :o

Currently debating what time to start making dinner as DP will be watching the motorcycling for about an hour from 6pm....... mmm, have to say, not overly hungry at present, so I suppose I have answered my own question!

    I'm not hungry, as I had a go at making a version of vegan gumbo for lunch. I happened to be using one of my notebooks and on the opposite page was a vegan version of gumbo - actually for the slow-cooker. I haven't got a slow cooker, but it works just as well on the stove top. Any officionado's of gumbo need to look away, as it is nothing like..... but I have to say that we enjoyed it. It hit the spot and was filling - just what we needed :D A pic of lunch here;

    024_zpsdca1cae8.jpg

And yes, you're right, it was quite thick - I left it to stand for 10 mins or so, and it continued to soak up the tomato broth. But it was nice to eat, so I reckon you can make it as thick or thin as you like. The recipe came from The Vegan Cookbook by Adele McConnell. I can't find her recipe on the net, and as with any gumbo recipe, there are so many, that I can't even find anything that remotely resembles the dish I made. There was certainly no okra in this recipe and I had no green bell pepper to put in it either. The thing I liked about the dish was it was easy, tasty and actually cost very little to make. Another keeper recipe :D

I was listening to the Food Programme on R4 as I made lunch and heard mention of the Bristol Food Connections Festival. I'd seen mention of this somewhere else, so I took the time to look it up. WOW - 11 days of activities around food! With the emphasis on access, affordability and cooking! Jack Monroe is appearing on the 10th. What a fab sounding event - lucky Bristolians :D

Right, better toddle off and do a bit more. Not really nailing the 'to-do' list today, but can claim a NSD, so all is not lost. DP has just checked his lottery ticket - off to work for another week we go......... :rotfl:
