Morning, sunshine, singing birds, buds bursting, ether rising like wisps of smoke, cat curled up on a wall, and this is a beautiful day. Hope yours is, too.
Made sweetcorn and apple soup yesterday, with crumpets, sounds decidedly odd but was very nice, in fact, DD snaffled the remainder, so I will have to think of something else for my lunch today.
I, too, am a fan of pastry free quiche, or mucky-omelettes as we call them. Have even been known to put one in a teacake. MMm lunch solved. Thanks folks.
Need to put washing out, (honestly, there is only me and DGS so where do all the dirty clothes come from?) and off to Drs. to get bloods taken, will leave my purse at home and get a NSD in, .....maybe..... oh, my lack of will power, need some won't power quickly. xxxxx0 -
Good Evening :hello:
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
Ay up satchmo - super poem, and yes, I agree, thanks for sharing. And it wasn't until I read it this evening that I realised that I had actually seen, not a stream, but a patch of water today that was full of stars - you know how when sunlight catches the ripples.... mmmm, super. I'll always think of the line in this poem now when I see sunlight twinkling on a river, pond, stream or the sea.....:Dmrsinvisible wrote: »Morning, sunshine, singing birds, buds bursting, ether rising like wisps of smoke, cat curled up on a wall, and this is a beautiful day. mrsinvisible - you have brought poetry to the thread too!mrsinvisible wrote: »will leave my purse at home and get a NSD in, .....maybe..... oh, my lack of will power, need some won't power quickly. xxxxx
:rotfl::rotfl:- I think that you ought to *patent* the term 'won't power' pretty quick - you'll make a fortune
Well, what a lovely day again
Nabbed a NSD, but my run will end tomorrow
Found out that British Telecom had now become a bank. According to their representative, it is 'entirely normal' for them to put up your direct debit - even though your account is in credit. They've had £17 of my money for over a year, and now that they've put their prices up (but according to my bill, it's because you are using more - erm, no I'm bleeping not, I'm on a package and I'm using well within my limits actually) that credit is only £11, so they're putting the DD up! How come the energy firms are no longer allowed to 'hold' your money - but BT can? I got a refund of £9 from my power company last year because I was in credit. Just imagine how much money BT are hoarding from their customers!! C'mon Marty, sort 'em out!!! :money:
But apart from large telecom provider's idiocy, my day has been grand
Dinner turned out to be a simple affair. We just had the harira, as I remembered that the new flatbread idea would involve garlic. Now, for all I know, my dentist may be a foodie and love the scent of the stinking rose, but I thought it best to play cautious.........
Picture (ultra boring) here;
If you'd like the recipe - and remember that harira is actually a dish with meat in it, so meat-eaters don't be shy- then THIS
is as good as any, has the meat proportion, and is otherwise very similar to the version I make - with the exception I don't put vermicelli in mineIt's very filling though and quite a cheap dish to make.
Oh, and I should add - just for the record, not as a 'trumpet' or anything, that the cheque was sent off today for the 'good karma' of the gratis glasses repair. DP decided entirely independently that the Alzheimer's Society was to be the chosen beneficiary.
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
the sight of spring flowers - ok, so they were cultivated (in a garden) but they looked so pretty and *optimistic* in the sunshine
for streams full of stars, seen in broad daylight - without the need for a telescope
for coffee, HM cake and a natter - sometimes you just need it
Thank you for popping in, reading and commenting. You know that I appreciate it
See y'all later.

Greying_Pilgrim wrote: »shortie - is that with UHT milk, or conventional S/S? And did you use milk powder in your mix?
Also, I leave mine overnight, anything from 8 - 12 hrs. Plus I always put some warm water into the flasks whilst I am heating the milk/putting the culture in - so the mix isn't going into a 'cold' flask iyswim.
Good that you'll give it another go though. That's what it's about
Greying
Evening
Yeah, it was with UHT and dried milk powder - I have a second amount I can try with in the fridge so will have one more go there, and then if that doesn't do too well again I'll try semi skimmed fresh milk with the full boiling and then cooling, and see if that's any better.
I'll retry the UHT though and leave it for 10-12 hrs (patience isn't my strong point, lol) and see if that helps

Tatties by June? Woohoo! :j erm...no, I didn't know parsnips are hard to germinate, Greying, but to me everything is hard to germinateAnyhow, I've taken your advice and put some on damp kitchen roll in a lidded plastic box in the airing cupboard this very morning so I have a 'back up'[STRIKE] when [/STRIKE] if the first lot are all 'no shows'. Once again, thank you so much for your invaluable advice :kisses3: The sweetie household may yet have some 'free' food this Summer. In case anyone is interested, And*ex have an offer on their website at the moment. For 5 'puppy points' and £1.99 postage you can have several packets of salad leaf seeds valued at over £23. I reckon that's a bargain because around here seeds are almost £2 a packet  I am sending for some today...
Have a super day everyone x
Thanks for the seeds heads up! What a lovely deal.
Swift are a first early potato which grows super quick and is mature from so you prob will be eating tatties by early summer - how exciting is that. Super fab. They can be ready to eat as early as 8-9 weeks from planting. Great cropper - and doubly resistant to eel worm (yuk and yay all at once) and great for pots and small places (if that doesn't sound exciting.....I don't know what does!)
Parsnips (just to be super geeky here) their seeds lose their 'vibrancy' quickly so can be hard to germinate - if the seeds are within date or pretty fresh you should be splendid. They just go off quick and so can be tricky. They are one of the few things that like Greying I check by trying just like she said.
:T
I do like a bit of veg geekery.
Thanks for the opportunity to blather on.

Greying loving the Ms Munro book. Deeply sensible. She reminds me a bit of Alys in her ability to muddle things up, have confidence to throw caution to the wind and give it a go.
If that makes any sense.
I'm glad you had a nice day and lovely that someone got the 'pay forward' from the glasses and you got a nice cuppa.
I mucked up my meal plan by buying and devouring a cauliflower tonight - I'm sure everyone would agree that's living on the edge.
Have a great day tomorrow and thanks for a wee bit of veg-geekery.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Lovely to read "Leisure" again, thank you Satchmo (sorry for the hi-jacking GP).
W H Davies was such an interesting character http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._H._Davies
I read The Autobiography of a Super-Tramp as an older teenager (a long time ago:rotfl:) and a few years ago a friend lent it to OH suggesting that he might enjoy reading it - pleased to say that he did and I think I might try to get hold of a copy again.
More lovely food recipes and pics GP :T, thank you for posting, I really need to read back and copy some of the ones that I would like to make.:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Good Morning :hello:
shortie - love that you are giving the yog making another go
kackleful - hello
Pippi - isn't that right about Parnsips though - I always recall letting a parsnip or two go to seed on the allotment one time. They make the most fab seed heads and had the most wonderful aroma (if parsnip is your perfume of choice). Anyway, I was having trouble germinating new p/nip seed that year, but what did I discover up at the allotment? Where the seed head had shed seed, it was a carpet of mini parsnip seedlings - they were growing strongly and without human interference - thank you very much :rotfl:But as for the 'fresh' seed i'd paid cash for.....:rotfl:
Glad that you like Ms Munroe. I do think it is a 'starter' cookbook for the 21st century, given that so many folk 'can't' cook the basics.
maddiemay - I've not heard of that book, but had heard of the poem, but didn't know who it was by etc. Thanks for the link. will take a looksee just now
Well, today will be a spend day. I'm away to the dentist just now
Dinner this evening is as much a mystery to me as it is to you :rotfl:I didn't make any buns at the weekend, so the oven wasn't on to make what I should have made for dinner this evening. Are you still following this? RightSo i'll have to have a re-jig. If the dentist does any prodding and poking, we may be on soup rations anyway...... :rotfl:
Right, best get a wiggle on.
By the way, has anyone seen beanie? I noticed that she wasn't around on any threads I viewed yesterday (perhaps she was elsewhere cheering folks on) And also, EH's absence is noted.....
Hope you are out photographing everything like mad EH
And whilst I'm doing me 'nods' I shall also include the lovely kissjen, who is always in my daily thoughts, but I'll put it in writing today
Thanks for popping by, reading and commenting.
See y'all later.
