    Hope the dentist trip is painless both orally and financially dearest Greying :)

    I made a vegetable soup to take to work last night, it was a bit bland so I chugged in a (un)healthy swig of soy sauce. It was lovely :D Relevant only because you mentioned possible soup rations.:o

  • Good Evening :hello:

    Well, me old nashers passed inspection - I get to nibble for a 'nother day ;):D

    Thank you all for your good wishes re: the dentist. £18 quid for the privilege - ouch! Glad it's only once a year, and that I got in before the price rise on April 1st to £18.50. Plus the other 2 bands are going up £1.50 and £5 respectively. DP has to go in April, so will have to find 50p extra after all :(

    Piq - I've got to buy some soy sauce, it is on my list. Couldn't find what I wanted though. INOD - would you believe I recently found a recipe for veggie Worcestershire sauce - where on earth I'm going to find the time to make a batch, I dunno :rotfl:

    Today was a spendy day with the dentist, I also got the TV guide and some kitchen roll. We should be ok now until the weekend I think. Although I should really make some yoghurt - but that would leave us short on milk, so.......

    I was the 'right side' of the county to drop in on the parentals today - like to keep them on their toes. The gardening parental has been cracking on with the digging - despite explicit instructions not to <insert roll-eyes smilie here>. But seems hale and hearty. I got given some HG purple sprouting broccoli, so hence why I have been at the stove so long tonight, I wanted to make something nice with it.

    And of course, my fellow inspirers, what have we been discussing on here lately???? Of course, crustless quiche :D:D:D

    I mentioned I had seen a recipe using chickpea flour, well I had none of that, but I did have cornmeal and semolina, so, Dear Reader, in true MSE fashion, I improvised :D I did however, skimp on the milk, and didn't put as much in as the recipe dictated - because I didn't want the broccoli to disappear in the batter, however, the finished article was a little heavy, so next time I would either use less milk and adjust the flour, or use the flours and all of the milk. I was also disappointed that the Purple sprouting didn't leach colour into the batter :( I lightly steamed it in the microwave first and added it to the batter with some fried onions.

    Served with mashed potatoes, carrots and the 'leaves' of the PSB - along with a tomato sauce, picture here;

    030_zps6b2c4f32.jpg

    I would definitely make it again. And you can't beat fresh picked PSB :D:D

    I'm going to have to tone down my ambitions when using the oven though. I think that I will have to aim for just filling a shelf - or having 2 items cooked. Trying to fill the oven is dang near impossible with a kitchen that has hardly any worktops to balance stuff. The only kitchen that mine 'dwarfs' is Miss Khoo's in Paris :D So I've made some 'Snap' buns and some oatmeal slices (think 'Cranks) and I've done scrapple for another day. DP helped with the washing up (1st and 2nd loads) and is still washing up now :( So, I got 'value' for my 45 mins cooking time, but it's too much for a week night :o

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    fresh produce - can't beat it :D

    for a pleasant experience at the dentist (all the staff are great) - so different to the dentists of my childhood :eek:

    that we may (just may) get our new fence panels put up sometime soon - #onlybeenwaitingayearormore...............

    Thank you for popping in, reading, commenting and deciding our dinner choice :rotfl: You know that I appreciate it greatly - and so does DP, it was a good suggestion :rotfl:

    See y'all later.

    My dad has an allotment and I love his home grown produce, including PSB. I ought to earn my keep and help him out more on there.

    Not a fan of quiche, crustless or otherwise. However, cauliflower makes a most excellent light-carb pizza base here http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=1606756
    What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • Good Morning :hello:

    Running a little late today...:o

    Today I am going to get back on the NSD wagon! There is nothing that we need.

    Dinner this evening will be a bit of a fudge - no, not a bit of fudge, we need to ramp up the healthy eating, not throw it outta the window! :rotfl: I suspect it will involve a pilau of some description, just not necessarily in the form that it was written down on the planner :o:rotfl:

    I'm outta here, gotta fly...................

    Thank you so much for popping by, reading, commenting, providing links and generally joining in. Know that it is appreciated :D

    See y'all later.

  • Omg, I hadn't realised Worcester sauce wasn't suitable for vegetarians. I've probably poisoned a few in the past!

    That *does* look lovely, Greying - and as for Miss Khoo :) I've only seen two of her programmes, but she's absolutely fab, isn't she!

    Hope your day is going well :)
    2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Good Evening :hello:
    Omg, I hadn't realised Worcester sauce wasn't suitable for vegetarians. I've probably poisoned a few in the past!

    Nah, I doubt it INOD :D It's because it contains anchovies. I don't buy it myself, neither do I eat fish. But if it was in a dish that someone had cooked for me, I very much doubt I would refuse to eat it. In fact, all these chefs who advocate putting anchovy paste/essence with lamb, go to great pains to tell you that you won't taste the anchovy, but will get the 'umami' hit it is supposed to provide.........

    Karma - Miss Khoo works wonders in that small space - with a film crew in there too!! :rotfl:

    I blew my NSD today! I remembered I needed a new notepad - all these recipes are mounting up! So I indulged..... all of 39p in Home Bargains, and I had thought that the ones in theWorks for 99p were reasonably priced......... And then I saw a nice bag of crisps that will work well for our Italian themed buffet lunch on Saturday.................. *ahem* they were 89p. :)

    Dinner this evening was a new recipe and it worked really well - another keeper :D Especially since the 2 main components were a YS'd aubergine - 50p from mands last week and a pack of beetroot from HB - 29p :j So the dish was Aubergine and Beetroot pilau and I made an omelette to go on top. Pic here;

    047_zpsf6a26b7c.jpg

    As you can see, the beetroot colours everything! Interestingly, on the blog I got the recipe from, the rice has stayed white, but she does mention if you want the rice to pick up the ruby hue, then leave it steep longer. I reckon I probably stirred too hard :D But whilst I appreciate the red made it hard to photograph, it didn't harm the taste at all. Delish :D If you'd like to have a go at the recipe, I can heartily recommend the blog - it's a cracker, and I see that she has also published a book too - no wonder. Recipe HERE

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    for an interesting chat, with an interesting person - really appreciate that sort of thing, no recourse to gossip or supposition :D

    that a new recipe again worked well for the Greying kitchen - not only is it helping our budget, but it is helping to keep our meals varied and interesting - let's face it, boredom and repetition has thwarted many a good thrifty intention ;)

    that I bumped into a relative (through marriage) - they always remind me that in fact, my.life.is.wonderful. Don't ever let me forget that ;):D

    Thank you so much for dropping by, reading and commenting. You know that I appreciate it very much.

    I think there may be some footy on the box, so I'm away to watch that. Plus the Hairy bikers are on tonight, second part of their Japan trip.

    See y'all later.
