Its a bit different though isnt it?, cats do their own thing, their still a bit wild, its their nature. You dont take them out a lead do you like with a dog or have the same control over them.
If people really cant cope with a cat in their garden then the answer is simple.Get a high totally enclosed fence where the top is cat proofed.

I agree, as I said before my mum has cats and they are outdoor cats, but she makes sure they don't wander, they don't want to wander thanks to 2 horrible neighbours one who chucked a rock at one of the cats heads and the other who screamed at my mums kitten even though this man has a cat himself.

One of the neighbours on the other side has a very high fence and the cats cant get over it, not because they hate cats, they just have a fence.

I don't think anyone should be putting down barbed wire, bleach. I don't care for dogs but Id never harm them. I wouldn't harm any living animal.

How would someone who owns a dog like it if a neighbour of theirs put barbed wire outside their house and the dog got a cut paw, I bet they wouldn't.

Its a nuisance but if you cant talk to the woman, call the council or environmental health and ask that someone go out and speak to her.

And really, is the world going to end because a cat does a crap in a flower bed?

My mums cats get out but they prefer to toilet in their litter trays indoors and unlike dogs, cats tend to bury their poop.
Im sure someone has a different experience than that, but I wouldn't be squirting any animal with water, putting bleach or barbed wire down. Doesn't matter what animal, any animal.

Because even though I like cats more than other animals Im an animal lover and I don't want to see them come to any harm.

Ive been bitten a few times by dogs and big dogs scare me. But I give money to two dog charities, Id never say, I hate dogs, I don't hate them.

It baffles me how anyone who professes to be an animal lover can say they hate all cats, it really does.

Try and get rid of the cats from the garden in a humane manner, end of.

Because if anyone put down barbed wire and a pet of mine got injured, the police would be the first place Id be going to.

have you actually read the rest of my thread? I'm not putting barbed wire down mate. And if you have read them you know that I am taking advice offered to me.
Yes I am an animal lover - does that mean you have to love all animals? No. I am sick of cleaning up after animals that do not belong to me, on my garden, and I don't see why I should have to put up with it.

And yes the world might come to an end if my son picks up some cat crap whilst playing in the garden.

A cheap method of discouragement is to strategically plant a few small canes or spikes in the soil, wide enough apart so as to make it difficult for the cats to squat. ;)

This definitely works. I've used barbecue skewers to prevent my own cats from using certain areas of my garden. Would you consider filling bare soil with groundcover plants? Cats like loose soil to poo in.

skewers! another fab idea, thank you!
My OH is actually on about now jus filling the soiling in with either grass or slabs to get rid of the little cretins.

I will keep you all updated but for all the die hard feline fans, I am not going to use barbed wire (yet:cool::cool:) and I have hosed the bleach and mashed it up in the soil. If prickling their bums with skewers when they take a dump is humane, this is what I will do.

My patents have the noise emitting thing & it seems to work. Why do you think it would get stolen?
  • When we see dog mess in the street we are annoyed or angered and even more so if we tread in it. Society does not accept it and rightly so, it is even a criminal offense that is punishable with a £1000 fine.
So why is it acceptable for a strangers cat to mess on private land.Would cat owners be offended if a strangers dog messed in your garden.
When my kids play in our garden why should they be exposed to cat mess and the risk of catching e.coli of toxoplasmosis when i choose not to own a cat. I accept that i cant use bird feeders in my garden without the risk of finding dismembered birds strewn across the garden but i draw the line at !!!!!!. and if that means using mega sonic repellers , cocoa mulch, barbed wire, water pistols or fence spikes or anything else i see fit to use on my private land then that is my right
If i get to choose between the health and safety of my kids or an animal i choose my kids everytime.

I've tried just about everything, having only minor success with teabags soaked in olbas oil.

Couple of things I've realised they don't like is 1" to 2" loose slate chippings and bigger stones, one's that are about 1". Less comfortable to claw up I suppose.

A neighbours cat drives me mad as it gets behind the hedge and poos there, I can't get to it, but my dogs can :mad:

EDIT: The water in bottles is supposedly because cats/dogs won't defecate near fresh water. It doesn't work.

I do hope you can specify the range with those things so that it doesn't overlap onto the cat owner's garden too. I would be not best pleased if my neighbours got one of those and made it unbearable for my cats to be in their own garden. In fact I'd put the bass amp up against their wall to see how they liked it :rotfl:

The Sonic Cat Repeller will help protect your garden habitat and encourage wildlife and birds back into it. The Sonic Cat Repeller incorporates a sophisticated PIR (Passive Infra Red) detection system, which constantly monitors a fan shaped area of a 98 degrees arc up to a distance of 12 metres. The protected area is over 120sq. meters of unobstructed space. The Sonic Cat Repeller detects animals moving into this area and triggers a burst of continuously variable ultrasound, which sweeps a frequency range of 18,000Hz, 24,000 Hz to repel them. Simultaneously the LED indicator on the front of unit signals that it is now activated.

I'm not sure how she does that - every cat I've known as a pet has come and gone as it pleased, and they do wander.

I'm surprised at the suggestion of cat poo lying around on the surface - cats bury it, surely?
