I was scammed with this website too. I still have 10 more days to cancel it. How did you sort this out? Did you get the full refund?
I have received my refund (£85.00) today :T:T:T (after 2 weeks) not with my bank's help (dispute) as I was planning, but by sending an official email to TAD-SERVICES to email addresses: apply@life-in-uk-test.org.uk, claire@tad-services.co.uk
My email:
Dear Helen,
On xxx I requested a full refund from your website life-in-uk-test.org.uk. It seems that since then you have been intentionally delaying the process of refunding my money (£85.00). I have already informed appropriate authorities and with their support I am going to take legal action as:
1. The website is misleading despite outlining that it is a checking service.
2. According to your Terms & Conditions - I should be able to cancel the application for your services at any time within 8 days prior to the booked test date (xxx) and I would be entitled to a full refund. My application was cancelled 9 days prior to the booked test date.
3. In order to refund my £85 fee in full you have requested that I forward my 8 digit account number and sort code to your financial team (stated in your email sent on xxx). However you already have sufficient details to credit my card which you had debited in the first place. This information has been confirmed and recorded by my bank.
4. Your website life-in-uk-test.org.uk does not include a contact address and phone number, which contravenes the UK Rule of Law and Regulations for online businesses.
5. Your claim of 24/7 email support is incorrect as I have not received replies since xxx; if I had known this would be the case I would not have gone ahead with the process, as this aspect is important to me as a busy professional who needs to be able to contact you outside normal working hours.0 -

6. You also claim to have a telephone application service (no contact number given on your website) and full compliance with the Data Protection Act. Up to now you have not confirmed by email that you have deleted or removed any personal information you hold on me, contrary to the Data Protection Act; I requested this on xxx
7. During the payment process on apply@life-in-uk-test.org.uk you did not display the charged amount, which is also against the UK Rule of Law and Regulations for online businesses.
As you have failed as yet to refund me the full amount of £85.00, I am setting an official deadline of xxx, by which date the money must be paid into my bank account.
If you do not meet this official deadline to refund the full amount of £85.00 I will commence legal action.

Please check points 4 and 7 - regarding the accuracy, as CAB adviser mentioned it when I called for the support.
For other websites please check the Terms & Conditions, which might be different to life-in-uk-test.org.uk - also the payment on my credit card came up as DOMESTIC ALRESFORD.0 -

Also the Trading Standards from my local council passed all the information to Herefordshire Trading Standards, where the TAD-SERVICES are registered.0 -

I do not use Google anymore!! I have changed it for browser: duckduckgo, which claims that they don't track you.
Good luck:):)!!!
I use Google.
I'm just very, very careful about which links I click on.
And no, I've never been scammed by any of these companies.
Did you miss the disclaimer at the bottom of the Home page that said the company was not affiliated to GOV.UK?
I can't really see how you were 'misled' - but I am glad you have got your refund.
As for any potential action by Trading Standards, their stance is that as long as websites are not misleading, they are legal.0 -
Does any one have the email address of the company to ask for the refund?0

Even the best get caught by these websites. Unfortunately I use an iPad which does not display all of the screen so missed the information regarding their service charges. I have just fired them off an email asking for a full refund and received one back offering refund less £8 admin fee. Replied to them advising this is not good enough I want a full refund for a number of reasons.
1 they need to prove their liquidated losses for the £8
2 the service fee is a very onerous term of the contract, representing over 30% of the transaction. The more onerous the term the more the company must do to bring the exclusion clause to my attention
3 at no time did they advise of the amount they were debuting from my account
I am still waiting for a response but I will not give up0 -

If it were me, I'd snatch their hand off for the refund less £8 admin fee and look upon it as a lesson learned that cost me £8.0
