Why don't people use adblocks? this problem would not exist if people used them.

Adblock or no adblock, the people who fall for these are the computer illiterate types who are still using IE 6 on Windows XP, etc.

    Sorry to be blunt.
  • Hi Everyone
I'm not sure if this is the same thing but.

Stupidly I applied for my sons provisional on the internet through what I thought was the DVLA website low and behold it was only when I contacted the DVLA itself that I found out that I had applied on the wrong one I have now since the 19th of May trying to get my payment of £50 back they want my details I have asked them to refund my money but they wanted the time date and email address I used to make the payment now they want a photocopy of my bank statement the website looked like I had went through the government gateway website.

I am usually very careful with these things but obviously had a lapse in judgement that day does anyone have any advice as to how I can get this money back?

I don't know if I am allowed to put the link of this site up but in one of the emails they sent me after I enquired to make sure it was the real DVLA they responded by saying that they were a checking and processing site.

I didn't need them to check the form for me as I know how to fill out the form I genuinely thought this was the real DVLA.

Sorry for repeating myself and maybe not making much sense but any help would be so appreciated.
  • Hi,

I wish I had seen this post earlier. Whilst this may not be a fraud site it a fine line. When I went onto this site I was quite confused and came under the impression that they were connected to DVLA. They do not make their services or relation to the DVLA clear on the site so I'm not surprised others have mistakenly pursued their services.

I provided my card details for a replacement license without the site stating how much they would charge for this replacement. Whilst I found this extremely unusual I thought "it's a government website so surely I can trust it"- it is not a government website, I was simply mislead by the details on the site to think they had some kind of association with the DVLA and would be the relevant body to purse a license replacement with.

After providing my card details I was informed that I was charged £80. Not before, but after, I had provided my card details.

After speaking with the DVLA they informed they had no association with the site so i requested a refund with Drivers License UK.

They're customer service was awful. In so many words their reply told me it was my fault and I wasn't getting a refund. Anyone providing a customer service should know to have qualified a good service the customer should be happy with the service provided. I feel robbed. I was not provided a refund, I was not given an apology and they showed no interest in my concern or knowing how they could improve their services.

In a nutshull, do not use this site. Just go though the DVLA as the services of Drivers License UK may as well be a scam.

    Hi,

This is what happened to me, I would send urgent emails stressing you need a refund, although I have a feeling they get this often so I would be very firm.

Once they reply be sure to keep prompt communication to pursue a return and if they do not give it to you within 30 days, contact your bank as sometimes if you believe a service to be fraudulent your bank can contact the company to demand the service is refunded.

Unfortunately although my bank offered the service it had gone over the 30days so they didn't demand the refund. I hope this helps!

So are you suggesting that people ring this number and someone will answer and say "of course you can have your money back"?
  • I phoned that number, spoke to several people and after phoning everyday I got a refund, so hopefully yes, I hope so.

I fell for their scam website because DUCKDUCKGO (ethical?) posted it number one as a paid sponsored link AND the site said 'Environment Agency', as I was applying for a Rod Licence. The refund cheque I received was worthless - it bounced!
The link I used took me straight to the form and payment page. No mention of additional charges.
Lobby your MP, it's their job to protect the public from sites that claim to be a Government Department. The Environment Agency listed all the names of sites that try to emulate theirs.
