Well things have developed further following the email to Wickes. Received the following reply earlier today.
    Dear Mr **********
I am the Regional Operations Manager for Wickes in the Yorkshire Region.

I have been forwarded details, following your recent e mail to Geoff Cooper, regarding a parking ticket your wife was issued whilst using our store at Halifax on 6th July 2013.

May I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience you or your wife may have been caused by this situation and confirm that we have spoken to Vehicle Control Services and asked them to cancel the ticket to ensure that you will not be required to pay any fine. If you receive any further contact or correspondence from the car park monitoring Company then please do not hesitate to contact me on the mobile number below, although please be assured that this should not be necessary.

We do have a situation at our Halifax store whereby members of the public do park their cars all day whilst visiting the City Centre and it is for this reason that we have the need to monitor the use of our car park. On this occasion it appears that Vehicle Control Services have not allowed anywhere near sufficient time for your wife to visit the ATM machine and return to use the store which is not acceptable and I have spoken to the Company concerned to ensure this does not happen again.

I would really appreciate if you could send me your home address, Mr *********** so I can forward on some Wickes vouchers, as a gesture of goodwill, for you to use in the store when you next visit. It is important to us that we offer excellent customer service at all times and I hope that you have not lost faith in us due to this unfortunate incident.

I do hope that we can continue to be of service and look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours sincerely

    Mr ***********

    What a result!
This would not have been possible without the help of all the regulars on here - Guys Dad, CM, Stroma, zzzlazydaisy & Umkomaas to name but a few.
Special thanks to Mrs J S.

There maybe further icing on the cake if I get a POPLA victory too!
    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::T:T:T
    I will let you know.

    Once again thanks to all!

I think this page should be bookmarked as the CEO has indicated that leaving site to go to an ATM is not sufficient reason for the PPC to book anyone.

Another precedent for us to use.

Agreed. Will try to remember this one! Very well done, mib150!

This case will be added to the sticky thread 'Successful Complaints about PPCs' in a moment. And Wickes win the 2013 virtual prize for Best Customer Service according to MSE Parking Forum members I am sure!

Aldi and the Range are obviously the worst of all.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    Hey mib150
Great news, bet that is a massive relief for you, I know it was for me.
Been waiting for you to post the outcome.
Wickes have really come up trumps for us, it's just a shame all of the other retailers do not follow suit.
Will a POPLA appeal still go ahead now the PCN has been cancelled?
It would be great if it has actually cost VCS to give you a ticket.

Thanks very much, if I hadn't seen your thread I probably wouldn't have bothered. I felt the POPLA appeal I submitted would be enough (thanks to the regulars), but nice to get it cancelled at source :D

Let's reserve judgement on that accolade until the vouchers are received, maybe they will be to the value of £27? ;)

Wonder if VCS will try claim their POPLA code costs back :D:D:eek:

Well done mib150. Glad to have been of some help - alongside the other regulars. A great team effort everyone :).
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Well Mr Wickes was as good as his word, on my return home today I was greeted with a letter of apology together with vouchers for £50!

Wow £50 for you, what a nice little Christmas present for yourself :) Well done indeed!
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.
