no idea about artificial pectin but most recipes i've seen don't use it and only use natural pectin i.e lemon juice and granulated sugar or jam sugar. i know my neighbour makes jam with the lemon juice not pectin using slightly under ripe fruit and it taste/sets ok. not tried it yet myself though.

Thanks MT - I did use a 250ml bottle of pectin which I thought might have been enough? I might try reboiling it.I can only think that the juice should have been 100% pure (not specified in the recipe) and not one that had a water / concentrate mix. Still you live and learn It's actually quite tart which I'm surprised at - had some on toast this morning. It would prob go really nicely with vanilla ice cream as a warm sauce , or on pancakes so it won't go to waste.

Picked two punnets of blackberries earlier from the wayside (forgot how prickly those bushes are, that and the fact they like growing with stinging nettles ), and now my mum has given me some strawberries so going to have plenty of fruit to practice another batch with, and freeze some down for the winter. Thinking of making honeyed plum crumble later - Nigella watch out :rotfl:

Oh, and on the upside, the potatoes I planted seem to be showing signs of growth even though the soil is looking a little furry  Thinking of getting a couple more boxes (they are old council boxes we used to put our recycling in) and next year getting some grow bags from the pound shop, splitting them (can prob use 1 per 2 boxes) and scrounging some seeds to see what I can grow. I think I have been inspired by the wonderful bounties described here :)

Thanks MT - think I'll just use it as a sauce / jus ;) and try the 100% pressed grape juice next time - I picked 2kg of blackberries today so have some to play with.

Also made honeyed plums for a crumble tomorrow - was talking to my mum on the phone while they were stewing and I think they are a bit overdone now, but hey ho - I guess I can always add some body with said blackberries (or even some nectarines that are in the freezer)

Good morning. I hope everyone is well and has had a good weekend. It has been a mixture of sun and rain this weekend, hoping for some sun today so I can get my washing dried and some shopping done. Rain is no good for wombling:(
Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

Well done on your blackberry picking. A lot of the supermarkets are selling gardening stuff cheap, might be worth looking. I got a few bags of 40L multi purpose compost from asda on Friday night for 30p each and there was a big pallet of them. I noticed other gardening stuff going cheap as well, so now's the time to buy for next year.

What a relief and what a great result. Many congrats to DD

Had a busy day today as rain didn't start until late afternoon and then not as much as forecast so just kept gardening, finished ours and then went over and did mum's. Came home feeling tired and then about 5pm started with sore throat and streaming cold :( so an early night for me as just want to curl up on the sofa. Ages since I have felt like this!

I hope your feeling better this morning. I think the weather has a lot to do with it, one minute sunny and hot and the next raining and cold. I am still not sure if we have really had a decent summer or not because of it being so mixed.

    Hello all

I'm just starting to venture into the world of online deal sites. I signed up to Groupon but got a little inundated (spelling?) with emails and you couldn't seem to select down the mailing list. KGB fared a bit better but been on a week now and haven't spotted many deals I fancy.

Livingsocial seem pretty good as does vouchercloud for local deals. I've just discovered Travelzoo today which looks promising.

Are there any others out there and how would people rate them?

Have you signed up to quidco & topcashback? If not then I am sure Aesop would be willing to pass a referral link on. ;) Have you got another email other than your main one, because you get so much stuff from the online sites it is better to have one just for that and other things you sign up for so it doesn't clutter up your main email account.
Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

Good morning Blue and everyone else.

Strange day so far, the sky is grey and overcast but here and there bits of blue are showing through. Maybe we won't get rain today and we can put some washing out to dry.

    Hope everyone is well

    Good Morning Everyone:)

Quick catch up then back to tidying and clearing out :(

Glad we got blue sky and sunshine today already got 4 loads of washing on line and another in washing machine and got 4 loads yesterday but ran out of drying space so 2 other loads were waiting from yesterday to hang out so very glad of sun:rotfl:.

DH decided to start clearing out garage yesterday as was having a moan as needed to do CB but couldn't actually get to all the stuff  shame he hadn't listened back in April as where we normally go don't tend to do any after August.:( anyways now it all sorted hopefully will stay that way even if for next year.
