  • Morning guys

Another cold day today, the day I put the central heating back on is getting closer and closer. Autumn officially starts in a few days but the autumn weather is with us now, the leaves are coming off the trees.

    Hope your all well

Great weekend thanks CW. I put old hanging baskets over any patches I've seeded to keep the birds off :)
    Morning everyone :D

We aren't really being bothered by birds tbh. I saw a magpie in the garden yesterday and just waved my arms at it and it scarpered. And then later on a wood pigeon but that was only interested in the pond, think it wanted a drink of water. lol.

I think its just a bit too cold for the grass seeds to germinate.

It's 18°C in Sheffield at the moment - plenty warm enough fro grass :D

    Found this:
Most grass will germinate in more difficult conditions. Ideally, around 2" of top soil is perfect for the newly germinated seeds to establish their root structure in. The weather needs to be right too. The soil temperature needs to be between 9-12°C for seed to germinate. This is usually from March through until September. Seeds also require adequate moisture to germinate and grow. On average, the UK usually has sufficient rainfall in March - April and September - October.

I'm sure the grass will be fine CW, i put some down yesterday and the box said to sow spring to late autumn, grass is hardy stuff - its why it pops up along the patio slabs so often lol! i'd say better to plant it now when its not going to get scorched by the sun but its still warm (was about 24 degrees down here today). I believe it needs to be kept moist but not wet. We've got a perfect grass climate, we're not 'England's green and pleasant pastures' for nothing

  • Good morning everyone.

Still no sign of my grass growing, wish it would hurry up and sprout. My son has watered the lawn every day except yesterday as we had rain overnight. Its been just over a week now since the seeds were put down.

Its quite nice weather atm, the sun has just come out and it was lovely and warm yesterday. I got 3 loads of washing dried outside, much better than having it on a clothes maiden to dry.

    Hope your all well.

We've had lots of fog and mist - every morning for days then the sun eventually breaks through if we're lucky. Drizzling early this morning, back to cloudy again :(

  • Good morning guys

hope you all had a lovely late summers weekend like we did. The weather was glorious yesterday, sunny, and very warm and the sky blue. Today so far its great and cloudy but hopefully it will get better later on.

My grass seeds are now growing in places, not all of them have germinated yet but lots have.

    Take care
