Can you explain why XP doesn't need a swapfile?

If a harddisk is full, then there is no room for one?

I've just reset my partners swapfile, and my Mothers laptop, and by resetting the swapfile, it has increased performance.

One is XP, one is Vista. And performance indication increases on both.

Can you justify your statement? Windows doesn't need a swapfile?

there is 3.5GB of space free anyway
a swapfile is only needed if there isn't enough ram, and there is.

my guess is your increased performance is either imagination, or due to something else

It's not the same machine now at this moment as it was 24 hours ago. Much quicker. What I meant about it being slow is that when I would load a web page using Firefox, I would get the circling 'image' on the web page tab denoting it was being loaded. And if I'd have more than one web site open, it was obviously even worse. 85.4% of my drive C is taken up by 'Documents and Settings'. Looking deeper....most of it is taken up by holiday videos I made. They are backed up on an external hard drive. Maybe I should have them all removed to a second hard drive? I'm also now re-installing Avast anti-virus.

And regarding the question about which printer am I running.....it's a Dell 810.

if the holiday video's are important, I recommend making at least 3 copies.

ideally leave them on the c drive, as the master copy and look for other things that may be able to be deleted

a second copy on external drive

a third or more copy burnt to dvd's or on another external drive

the problem with moving them to an external drive, is, if it's your only copy and the drive fails, they're gone

Malware found 11 infections; tdss found nothing and adw cleaner found some too which I've removed.
