There's 3.25 GB free of a 80 GB Hard Disk. I've deleted a lot of emails as well. I think it's also helped. Would it?

Yes. I haven't got any of them on now since it said there was insufficient disk space for me to re-install avg. It's quite stressful for somebody who's not knowledgeable about the workings of the computer. Sorry for all the questions.

ok, to find out where the space has gone, use this - emails are generally tiny unless they have attachments, and depending on your email reader, deleting them may not release any space until the folders are compacted inside the mail reader.

    http://antibody-software.com/web/software/software/wiztree-finds-the-files-and-folders-using-the-most-disk-space-on-your-hard-drive/

did you scan with tdsskiller, malwarebytes, and adwcleaner?

it's looking better from here, a few more things to tidy, just give the tdskiller a run, it's fast, http://media.kaspersky.com/utilities/VirusUtilities/EN/tdsskiller.exe

and adwcleaner to fix this c:\docume~1\alluse~1\applic~1\browse~1\261249~1.13 2\{c16c1~1\browse~1.dll

    http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner

    what exactly is slow

    what printer are you using?

run ccleaner to clean up temp files - www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

untick these (if you can see them) using msconfig, startup tab

    O4 - Global Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE

delete the google update task from c:\windows\tasks

Disable ctfmon - control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok

tick and fix these (and only these) using hijackthis

uninstall ask toolbar, and set your IE homepage to google or whatever your preference is

Click the java icon in control panel, advanced, misc - untick java quick starter, and untick place icon in task bar

then have a look where the space is going using wiztree

start, run, cmd -- in the box that comes up, run chkdsk c: /F to check the disk out on the next reboot

Your harddisk is full, meaning that the hdisk swapfile cannot work. So delete a LOT! or get another drive.

That will slow down the computer a LOT!

Otherwise the computer spec for running XP is good.

I know ms is thinking of stopping support for xp, but I think no time soon.

Also download ccleaner, avast is better than avg, press ctrl alt del, to see what services are hogging memory, and go to start run, type msconfig, and disable anything not required/all, if it needs it, it will load it.

FB also hogs memory. Shut it down repeatedly.

Good luck, I've done this and it improves performance no end, also defrag, and disk cleanup.

ms would commit suicide if they trashed xp, as vista, win7 or 8.

I'm writing this in Vista, and it keeps going wrong inserting words automatically in earlier text, no computer fault!!! RUBBISH! XP don't do that!
