Why do kids only get ill when due back in school?

Is it just mine or do kids only seem to get ill when they are due back in school after the school holidays?
Mine have come down with chicken pox this morning which was the absolute last thing I needed as I've had to be at home with them through the school holidays already.
Little boy has got a chicken pox on his lower eye lid looks painful. Looks like at least another week of school for them

Never worked for me...I managed to get chickenpox during the easter hols.
How many have got it? Probably best to get it out of the way with all of them - best stock up on camomile lotion!0 -
Yeah DH has just gone to the chemists now
The two youngest have got it, the eldest is in cyprus with her dad, and chicken pox has a 20 day incubation period so I hope she doesnt get it!
I'm on steriods for sinusitis and an allergy too so shall we place bets now that I get shingles.?!The Bloodlust Clique - Member #17 - blood, blood, glorious blood...nothing quite like a rare steak full of bloodYou may have to fight a battle more than once to win it. :wall:0 -

Just a tip here try some anti hystemine (spelling?) medicine as well. My doc recommended this and it really helped reduce the swelling and itching round the spots. I got a liquid kids version from the chemist and hardly needed to use the calomine at all

one of the joys of being a parent
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -
bicarb of soda added to their bath helps too

my eldest son had it when he was 4 and was fine with it,didnt really bother him too much
i caught it from him as id not had it in childhood,it was awful
was off work for weeks and the stinging / itching was unbearable
the younger they get it the milder it seems to be ,as my youngest son also got it when he was 4 and he didnt suffer too badly either0 -

My 2 DS's have had it in the past 3 weeks! DS2 went down with it and he's 6 , had 7 school days off which tied him over until half term, and apart from spots, you wouldn't know he'd got it, he's enjoyed the time off school, however DS3 went down with it on Thursday, and he's been awful, I've been to the GP and to the emergency GP, (and I'm not a panic stricken mom) cos his temp was so high and the spots were horrendous and apparently on the verge of becoming secondarily infected....
Anyway, according to the GP children cope easily with chickenpox, no symptons etc, but babies and adults suffer, they get flu like symptons and temperature as well as the spots.0
