Topup Now - for UK??

It looks from their web site that Topup Now cater only for international calls, but MSE recommends them for calls to UK mobiles also. I can't find any mention of the Topup Now UK call charges on the web site, nor a number or email where these could be checked. Has anyone had any more joy with this?

If you look at their website at https://www.topupnow.co.uk and click on " Click here for our complete rate list" your find the Intl and UK Rates.;) Just scroll down for UK.

By the way if you havent got inclusive minutes the service is not that cost effective. Due to the fact that as well as paying the 5p connection charge and call costs to them, your have to pay your provider to call the geographical access number.

TopUpNow works via 0800 access number, not a geographical access number, so is completely free to call from any landline or certain mobiles (eg giffgaff) without needing inclusive minutes.

No. It still uses a geographical number for mobile users. As the OP is posting in the Mobile Section one assumes he was going to call from a UK Mobile.Only the minority are on Giffgaff or a another mobile that allows Freephone access. But of course its worth knowing.:D

"Call access number 020 8180 9191 (standard rate) from the same mobile you used to send the text message (020 calls are charged at your mobile provider's standard rate)."

When I consulted the complete rate list last night the UK was noticeable by its absence - otherwise my post would have been pointless. Someone at TUN must have been reading the MSE corresp since then!

My main intention would be to use TUN for UK landline to mobile calls now that having switched from O2 to Sky, 18185 (with whom I have an account) is blocked. I get unlimited "normal" calls within my Sky package. I couldn't however find the MSE landline forum to post my query on so this was the next best thing!

The access numbers that I have noted for TUN are
    0808 1700 123 (just for international calls??)
    020 8180 9191 (for calls from mobiles??)

but no 0800 access number. This is a bit confusing at first sight so if anyone can confirm just what the position definitely is it would be helpful. Tks

The UK prices were there earlier then your post because I looked at them and was surprized at the low rate of 0.5 p to UK Mobiles which I thought at the time was if it was correct, was a sprat to catch a mackerel. As was the MSE Landline forum thread.http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=68 and the Designated Call Checker thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2937508

I can confirm that the 0808 1700 123 Freephone number is not inclusive to Intl Calls and can be used to access UK Numbers as can the geographical number . People without inclusive minutes (I see you have them) are better off using the 0808 number from a landline as Stuart suggests.

You can still use http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php if you ever need to via its 0808 Freephone Number.

Tks I'll keep all that for reference. If it does what it says on the tin then the TUN UK landline to mobile rate must knock spots off everything else even though pre-payment is required.

Is there an 0800 number for TopUpNow???

I can't explain the phenomenon about the vanishing UK rates when I searched, nor the difficulties in tracking down the other MSE forums .. It was a hard day.

I'll try the 18185 0808 number to check that it gets round the Sky block (for me) as I'm sure that it does for others.

TopUpNow and 18185 are actually part of the same group, they are known for offering headline rates on certain products and then changing them so keep and i on it.

They don't use 0800 Freephone numbers only 0808 which are equally as good.

The 18185 0808 number does work on non BT Landlines including Sky.;)

The current 0.5p/min (+5p connection) for UK mobile calls from landlines is currently very good, but as ypaymore says keep an eye on it! Expect this rate to change at no notice (they tend to do this regularly with various rates). I have used TUN on and off for several years, don't top up more than one top up at once based on one specific rate as it could very well change - mobiles might still be 0.5p/min at the end of this week, but could very well be 9p/min too. Enjoy cheap rates whilst you can!

One of the cheapest long-term UK mobiles rates I've come across is Savacalldirect.com which is 3p/min via 0207 access code and 4p/min from 0800 access code with no connection fee. It's been that price for a good few years at least, but never seems to appear in the MSE callchecker.
