You guys should try going on holiday and taste the food the locals eat... Surely a holiday would be far more enjoyable and interesting if you tried something new, else go to the south coast of UK and hope for good weather....0

Depends where you go Scope. Where i go there's very few Greek restaurants it's mainly aimed at catering for the British. Although saying that my favourite place is a Mexican restaurant in a British orientated resort of a Greek Island.. something sounds wrong there.0

However, at home we rarely get the cahnce (or the time) to have our "english" bacon and egg, so it's part of my holiday to have this and I just find the bacon abroad to be more like streaky bacon, very fatty and grisly. I don't have any tattoos, i don't drink beer or wear union jack shorts. I have a professional job with a good salary but I just love bacon sarnies !!!!
I don't doubt that most of that is true but would raise 2 points: first, you are such a lover of bacon sarnies but you don't find time to have bacon and egg at home? Sounds very odd. Second, the bacon most people eat in this country is total crap, full of water and very salty. Try getting some decent bacon from a farmers' market. Honestly, it's like a totally different food, meaty, full of flavour and not salty. It's not massively expensive either like a lot of things at the farmers' market. And if, you know, your history...0 -

Fair enough.. But if I knew it was mainly catered for british I wouldnt go there.. I like to experience different countries, etc, when I go.. No point (for me anyway) to go on holiday and all you see/meet/speak/eat/etc is british.. If you see my point.0 -
We go to Spain 2 or 3 times a year and eating out is a fantastic experience, especially when you find a little traditional Spanish place with a menu del dia for about 8 euros. And they do exist, even in the touristy places.
But an irony is that Spain is also the only place where I normally eat in Chinese Restaurants. In the UK they have become outrageously expensive and often the quality is indifferent. In Spain they are ridiculously cheap, and ideal for a quick lunch. The top quality 'posh' ones are also less than half the price of here, and invariably include starters, drinks, desserts and the obligatory free liqueur afterwards. There is something odd about ordering food in Spanish from a Chinese waiter.:o0 -

Hi, I live in Spain, but travel back to the UK at least twice per month.
I always bring back bacon sausage and stuff, and especially tea bags and coffee. I have it both in my hand luggage and in my suitcase, and though Security have often gone through my hand luggage, bacon and other foodstuffs were never a problem. (Last time he saw 12 Steak pies in my hand luggage he laughed and asked if I expected a delay):)
People may scoff and call me tight, but UK foods can be so expensive here.
I can get 600 teabags in asda for the price I would pay here for 100.
Enjoy your trip, and your bacon
