Who Does/Does Not Accept Amex?

Aldi should be accepting Amex in all their UK stores since 1 Feb.

They probably do, but if it was only from the 1st Feb it could be because of an old till roll already printed as to why it makes no mention of Amex.0 -

B&Q definitely don't take Amex. But you can buy B&Q gift cards with an Amex, at Wilko for example.
Wickes take Amex in store but not on line. But you can buy on line using PayPal charged to your Amex. This trick works for a few on line retailers, but you are probably losing S75 protection.0 -
For maximum value, use the Wilko saver card. Load it with 4 * £24 (using your Amex), and you will have £102 to spend. A £6 bonus, equating to a 5.9% discount.
You can use the Wilko saver card to buy gift cards, but you can only use the money you've added to the saver card, not the bonus.
Is this based in recent experience? I'd like to use this route to get a discount on Amazon gift cards at Wilko, but I popped in today and the T&Cs on the Saver card seem to suggest that you can't use the Saver card at all for gift card purchase. Don't want to top one up then find I can't spend it!
Incidentally my wife's Unison prepaid card gives a permanent 5% cashback at Wilko which is handy for the wide range of gift cards (including Amazon) that they sell.0 -

The T&Cs say you can't use the bonus to buy gift cards. So in theory if you put £96 on a card (in four transactions) to get £102, you can only buy £95 of gift cards and spend the other £6 on other products. Or you could load with 4 * £25, spend the £100 on gift cards, and the other £6 on other goods.
I haven't tried to buy gift cards using the bonus credit, but I have bought gift cards using the saver card and benefited from the £6 bonus.0 -

The package holiday company that I'm booking through has told me they can't accept payments from Amex as the charges are too high.
I got this card just a couple of weeks ago as it came up as the top pick on MSE for my needs.
All I want is to pay even a wee bit of the holiday to give me protection. Too many companies are going bust nowadays to take the risk.
Any advice on what I can do? AFAIK the law says that companies cannot charge extra for using a credit card, so what am I missing?
I still have just over a grand left to pay and want to go back to the company with the real facts as it may be that their knowledge is out of date. Even if I can pay £50 on CC then that's all I need.
Any advice or signposting gratefully received.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

You're missing the fact that they don't have to accept credit cards.
And since they cannot charge to cover their fees, many choose not to. Their knowledge appears to be fully up to date.
They may accept other credit cards, as the fees are often lower. You'll need to ask.0 -
Use a different card then or book a holiday via the Amex travel desk.0

Got it. Thank you.
They are happy for me to pay with a different CC, just not Amex. I genuinely would not have applied for this card if I had known that some companies don't accept it.
That's why I wanted to find out where I stood before I go back to them.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
