    Hi Wannabee,

Well done on maintaining your weight! :j

It is really important to have some quality time together, especially as you have had a tough time recently.

I hope you enjoy your time together. My two have another 5 weeks off and I m counting down the days to get back to normal and to stop feeling guilty about being at work.

  • Morning

I got a lie in this morning - 7.50, which is the latest I can remember for ages. Before the kids even stirred.

Kids want to go for a long walk and a picnic in the park. In theory I can make this a day without spending any cash. Let's see if I can put that into practise. Weather looks ok for the day ahead - we're a bit too far north for the bad weather this early (lucky enough). I'll leave hubby in bed till 11 then the kids can turf him out while I make the picnic.

Checked banking - it's looking ok. Just ok. I've fallen out of the habit of keeping my spending diary. I need to get back into it. I think I might draw some cash out today as a weekly allowance and when that's gone it's gone, until next weekend at the earliest.

It's also coming up to the 3rd anniversary of DH's mum's death. She had a brain tumour - it was an horrific few weeks. He scattered her ashes in the Lakes. I'd been looking into going down there on the anniversary but it's money that I can't justify spending. The Lakes are always busy in the summer, and I can't get a room cheaper than £150 for the 4 of us, before petrol costs. So I think I'll have to knock that on the head - not sure what to do instead.

4 more weeks of entertaining the kids, and 1 more with DH off work. I also need to get some 'little' bits done.

Dentist appointments for me and the kids
    Boiler service
    Car is needing some maintenance

All more costs - ah well.

Can you do it in a day? - family rail card - worth investing in anyway and often there are discount deals on cost of card.
Family room in a Youth Hostel?

  • It's a bit far to be done in a day - cross country, which I always find more complicated than going north or south.

I confess to never having stayed in a youth hostel. I'd have no idea of what to expect. Although I believe a shared bathroom (I literally would rather die than share a bathroom).

I will have a look into a railcard though - thanks. Not travelled by train since my student days.

Made the picnic and it started bucketing with rain. So abandoned idea, and have made hot lunch and now sun is out and shining again. Typical.

I tried a sample booking and could get an ensuite room family of 4 for £73 per night - other YHs in the area are available I just chose the biggest and most central - lovely place have stayed there loads of times in my misspent yoof and as a responsible parent;)

  • Hi WIC, what about staying in a travel lodge, there is one in Kendal, about 20 mins drive to the lakes (depending on where you want to be), family room would be around £47.

Trains only go as far as Windermere, if you want to get further into the lakes you need to take a bus. I think from where you are your train would go to Oxenholme, change trains there to go as far as Windermere and then bus to where ever you wanted to be in the lakes. So a car might be easier with the kids.

This is originally my home ground so if you need any advice, give me a shout.
  • That's brilliant, thanks so much - both of you :j
YH have come a long way since I was a young 'un. That's for sure.
Her ashes were scattered at Crummock Water - which seems to be a very quiet part of the lakes and it's all looking pretty busy around next weekend (which is the anniversary).
When we went to scatter the ashes we stayed in Cockermouth at a travelodge but would only go back there if we had to.

We got our walk out in the end. Took the picnic for tea. Just home and both kids looking nice and tired. Just time for bath and bed. I like a nice, low cost day out - and hubby paid for ice creams (and I didn't have one).

  • Morning

I have had the worst night of sleep I can remember for months. Woken by our cats at half past four this morning because it's pittling with rain outside and they wanted to be in. So I got up and let the poor things in, and then tried to doze on the sofa for a bit. My son then got up at 7 in spite of him being up twice during the night as well.

It's still chucking it down so unlikely that we'll get out and about anywhere today. That would be fine with me, however, the little one gets hyper if he's stuck indoors all day. He has so much energy that I love to get him out and about for a couple of hours if I can. I'm planning a DVD day, with a bit of baking later on to keep them occupied. DD is happy enough with DVD's and some time on her computer though. I've decided that if I get desperate I'll take the kids out shopping for their school shoes. Stuff that needs doing but I have no real plans for.

Wish me luck for the following
    1. I might want a nap at some point today.
    2. I am going to fat fighters in an hour (not expecting good news there after a week of indulgence with the family).
    3. Sky engineer is coming today to sort out why we keep losing signal.

  • Officially huffed with fat fighters. I wasn't expecting great news, however I wasn't expecting them to tell me that I'd gained 4lbs either.

I was SO huffed I refused to stay for class. It wasn't my usual lady there, and the woman that does the weigh in said that everyone had gained weight.
I wasn't expecting great news, but not that. I even came home and got on my own scales, which I don't usually do - they said I'd maintained from last week.

Here is a list of things I have and haven't done over the week.

Monday - lunch out with family (pasta and sauce, and dessert)
Tuesday - Pizza Hut. I had 2 pieces of pizza and a load of salad (cucumber and tomato etc, not the croutons/potato salad)
Wednesday - Picnic out - I had a protein milkshake while everyone else tucked into sarnies and cake.
Thursday - Pub lunch. I had chicken fajitas, one wrap and no dessert
Friday - Nando's. Butterfly chicken and beans, no dessert
Saturday - Home made chicken curry
Sunday - picnic (again I had a shake instead of the food), and no ice cream

I only have 1 main meal a day - then eat as and when I'm hungry. When I eat out I normally just have a couple of shakes for breakfast and tea. Grrr. And I drink SO much water I can't be dehydrated.

OK. I feel better having gotten that off my chest. But next time the fat fighters lady tells me that she is off on hols I'm going to book a week off as well. Don't like the other lady's scales.:p

  • Morning diary.

Another rubbish night of sleep again. I just started overthinking everything and my stupid brain woke me up just after 3am and I couldn't get myself back to sleep.:(:( Had another little doze on the sofa for about an hour before the kids got up.

Ended up taking ds out for his shoes yesterday. I managed until 4pm but then gave in and took him out. I can't believe how ugly some boys shoes are. I don't want him to have trainer style shoes for school (a little bugbear of mine), but there was hardly anything else to choose from. We've ended up ordering a pair in, but I did buy his gym shoes which were £9.

The drive home from the shops was scary. Lots of flooding, and the roads were terrible - and still people overtaking me doing 60-70mph. Was pleased to get home in 1 piece.

Thought I was going to bag a no spend day today, but me and the kids are going to our new dentist, and I pay for my appointments. I had already bought us some cheap cinema tickets though, so we're off to see Despicable Me 2 this afternoon. Leaving DH at home - for some reason he stayed up all night last night. We had a bit of a strained conversation at about 5am - both knackered and not really in the mood for anything serious, but I felt I needed to remind him to be a bit more considerate of me and the kids (again). I wonder if I can ever expect anything more from him or if I'm just fighting a losing battle. Hopefully his psychiatric referral will come through soon and we may finally be able to make some more progress. Fingers crossed.

Have a good day all, I'm pleased the sun is out again.
